New Penalty Areas on 5 and 17
Please be advised that as of Wednesday, 3 February 2021 there will be two new penalty areas on Hole 5 and Hole 17 added to the golf course.
Hole 5
The area between the path and the out of bounds fence along the right hand side of Hole 5 will now be a red penalty area. If your ball comes to rest within this red penalty area, you may take penalty relief under Rule 17.1.
The thinking behind this is if you are in this area, you currently have to play your ball or declare it unplayable, if you find it. Now, you can take penalty relief from this area even if you don’t find it. It won’t make this hole easier, just maybe a bit quicker and a bit simpler if you end up in this area.

Hole 17
The area defined by white stakes surrounding the greenkeeper/maintenance shed is currently free relief. This won’t be the case any more.
The area defined by blue stakes will become a no play zone, with compulsory penalty relief to be taken under Rule 17.1e. if your ball comes to rest within the blue staked area. The relief reference point is defined by a blue disc or blue paint marked DZ near the intersection of the concrete paths on the right hand side of 17 short of the first fairway bunker.
The area defined by red stakes will be a red penalty area. If your ball comes to rest within this red penalty area but not within the blue no play zone, you may take penalty relief under Rule 17.1.
This is to tidy up the area on the right hand side of Hole 17. I believe to get free relief for hitting a seriously wayward shot whilst playing Hole 17 does not reward good golf. It also tidies up the area on the right hand side of Hole 17 all the way down to the pond.
