Teacher and Club Fitter joins Brisbane
Widely-experienced Teaching and Club Fitting Professional Richard Gompels has joined the staff of The Brisbane Golf Club.
During his 22-year career as a PGA Professional, Richard has worked at a range of golfing facilities, including the elite Australian and Royal Queensland golf clubs. His various roles have been as Teaching Professional, Director of Golf and Assistant Professional, and Richard is highly experienced in club fitting, game development, sales, junior coaching and club repair.
And according to BGC Director of Golf, Joe Janison, Richard brings skills which will make him a most valuable addition to the Professional staff.
“The demand for teaching and club fitting is an area of our operation which has escalated in the past few years, hence the need for another staff member,” he said.
“Richard is extensively competent in providing the high level of service and individual care to which members of The Brisbane Golf Club are accustomed. He also has a strong client base, which we believe will follow him to our club.
“We are really excited about the expertise he brings, and what he will offer our members.”
As well as The Australian and Royal Queensland, Richard has had three stints at Oxley Golf Complex in various roles, including his most recent as Teaching Professional. He has also worked at McLeod Country Club and Riverlakes Golf Course.
And having worked in such a wide range of golf parameters, BGCs new Professional has successfully delivered a wide range of clinics for golfers of all levels, including women through SwingFit, special needs golfers and primary and secondary school students.
“I believe my ability to communicate, connect and build strong rapport with golfers of all ages and abilities will make me an asset to the BGC team,” Richard said.
“I have a strong passion for coaching, and am continuously learning new skills and information through my contacts with leading industry professionals and professional development activities, such as the PGA ACE seminars.”
Richard has become proficient in using a wide range of innovative coaching and technological aids, such as Boditrak Pressure Sensing Golf Mat, Flightscope Launch Monitor and GASP integrated coaching software.
“These aids provide me with useful data to fit clubs, assist my clients in their game development and tailor lessons to address their individual needs,” he said.
Richard has been employed to provide both golf tuition and fitting services to TBGC, and will work alongside the team of Garry Calder, Lee Eagleton, Joe Janison, Reece McRae and Asha Hargreaves. – TONY DURKIN
