Golf Course and Weather Update

I am sure all Members are aware that Southeast Queensland is currently experiencing another week of heavy rain. This is unseasonal and adds to the frustration of a particularly sustained wet Summer period which included the Brisbane Floods in February. My reading of the Bureau of Meteorology latest forecast is that this is still an uncertain and evolving event. There could still be heavy rain over the next 24-48 hours, but hopefully next week will bring a reprieve and some better weather for all of us.

The golf course and surrounding suburbs already had a very wet water table and hence this rain has caused the local creeks to again flow vigorously and inundate our course in the usual places around the creek beds. Fortunately, no greens have been affected and I believe once the rain stops the water will recede quite quickly. All course equipment is safe at present and the main pump has been moved to the club carpark. Our staff are constantly monitoring the rainfall and course conditions. There will obviously be some clean-up work required from our Course Team over the coming week.

Our Golf Course will remain closed over the weekend, and I expect also into early next week. I wish to apologise to Members in advance, but I am sure you appreciate the extraordinary circumstances that have combined to produce the rainfall and flooding this season. My understanding is that most Golf Clubs in Southeast Queensland have experienced similar challenges.

Although the practice fairway will be closed today, the practice chipping and putting greens remain open for our Members. We will endeavour to keep Members updated using our app, SMS and social media.

This is usually a busy time of year for the Club, and it is unfortunate that events such as Club Championships and Pennants are being impacted by this weather event. Hopefully things will return to normal soon and all Members can return to enjoying the golf course and Club again. I would like to thank our Club Captains for their ongoing work to ensure minimal disruption to the golfing calendar.

In the meantime, I wish all Members the best during this challenging time. Hope to see you all back on the fairways next week.

Kind regards

Mark Deuble, President
