Brisbane GC Seniors News May – Preview June.

May has been a good month for us.

  • Senior Midweek Challenge Team riding high.
  • Some success at AUSOOM Level.
  • Some good results at QSOOM level without cracking any winners eggs.

MIDWEEK SENIOR CHALLENGE.

At the halfway point of the season, we are sitting pretty – equal with Gailes at the top of our division with 4.5 wins each. While we’ve won our three home games in good fashion, the half at Wynnum and the great win away at Indooroopilly have set our season up for a potential semi-final appearance if we can keep winning our home games.

AUSOOM.

Just the one event in May – The NSW Senior Medal. A highlight on the Seniors calendar, with rounds at The Lakes, The Australian and Avondale, with the boys from BGC having some success.

The Lakes, in 35km average winds, played super tough. Deaney’s excellent 78 was good enough to secure T3 in the scratch and picked up a ‘cheque’ . Marto’s 91 contained a comedy of errors.

The wind wasn’t as bad the next day at The Australian but still made things quite difficult. Marto’s 79 gave him a T6 Scratch and 2nd Nett – for another ‘cheque’. Deaney’s 81 left him some work trying to chase down the leaders.

A perfect day at Avondale where the course was set-up very tough. Deaney’s 77 (+6) was good enough again for T3 Scratch. Marto’s 92 had him pondering what happened to the 80’s … a bit like his life really.

The single rounds counted toward the NSWSOOM where Deaney now sits at 31st and Marto is at 65th.

The three rounds combined counted towards the AUSSOOM points where Deaney sits comfortably in 6th place, with Marto back in 147th .

This month – Deaney, Marto and Ian Burgess have won (?) earned (?) …. Ok, nominated for and been accepted (!) for the Australian Seniors Matchplay tournament – 19-22 June at Coolangatta Tweed West Course. This comprises of 7 rounds in 4 days … it’s a very strong field with 6 plus markers !

QSOOM.

Three Qsoom events in the last month.

Bribie Island

Scratch – Ian Burgess had things well under control at one of his spiritual homes, until a bunker with little sand put paid to his hopes. Nice effort to a 3rd anyway and a good round from Peter Lansom.

Nett – Major points for Burge and Lansom.

Coolangatta Tweed – West Course

Scratch – Nothing great here from our 6 representatives .. Led home by The Ox.

Nett – Not  too much to write home about here either … not a happy hunting ground for the BGC contingent.

Pacific Harbour.

Scratch – Another unhappy day for Team BGC … with Ian Brereton our best on a very tough course.

Nett – Nice work from Ian Brereton to gain a 3rd place here.
