The Men’s Main Event, no not C Grade John Millman…Club Championship Round of 16 draw sees an amazing group of young men, and John Smoljko, tee it up this Sunday, 11 June from 7am.
Just to give you a glimpse of some of the golf that will be on show, here are some stats that may be of interest:
- To make the top 16 this year you had to shoot 151 or better for the two rounds. In previous years this number would have put you firmly in the top 8.
- To make top 8 this year the number was 147
- Our top 3 seeds in the draw shot Par or better for the 2 rounds
- There are 11 players with a GA Handicap in the + range
- Within the top 16 are 3 of our Juniors that helped secure the Division 1 Pennant in 2022
The depth of talent at BGC right now is incredible, and this year’s playoffs will feature some of the highest calibre golf we have seen…the Round of 16 will be more like 8 mini finals, with the following weeks getting better and better.
What an exciting competition the Women’s Club Championship is also shaping up to be, with the following 8 players competing for the title.
- Reigning champion, Aspen Sugars, having completed her freshman year in USA with a timely return to Australia for summer vacation, being able to defend her title.
- Safina Kyprianou and Angelina Drakos, up and coming juniors, fresh from their recent experience at the Queensland Junior State Titles.
- Champion from 2021 Lesa Lambert and her well known daughter Anna, who give no quarter when competing regularly against each other in weekly club competitions
- Finally, the dark horses, Perri Ilott, Angela Fong and Jodi Holmes who surprise at every turn.
In the other events on show throughout the morning, there are also some very interesting match ups that are sure to entertain, so do yourselves a favour, once you have finished your Sunday morning tea and toast, and come out to watch and support this year’s players. The golf on display will be of a very high standard and not to be missed!
Pick the Winners and Win
As a reminder, there is a competition that is free to enter, to pick the winners of each match for the 2023 Men’s and Women’s Club Championships. To enter simply print our the Brackets, complete and return them to the Golf Shop prior to 5pm Saturday, 10 June. Click on the tabs below to print out both Brackets. As always if you have any questions please see Joe or Reece in the Golf Shop.
