The Brisbane Golf Club Foundation
After much evaluation and deliberation, the Committee is pleased to announce the establishment of The Brisbane Golf Club Foundation to financially assist the Club with some of the longer-term objectives and developments. Members are invited to help the Foundation play a significant role in our Club for the benefit of current and future members.
Members can read the BGCF Constitution by clicking here.
The Foundation
The Foundation is being established as a not-for-profit fundraising company separate from the Club operations. The Foundation will be independently governed and will have a small membership of senior Club members to maintain accountability and performance. Importantly all funds raised by the Foundation can only be used to improve the Club with the approval of the Foundation Board and are not available to supplement the Club’s normal operating requirements.
The Purpose
The Foundation will primarily raise funds through donations, gifts, bequests and other contributions or fundraising activities. These funds are then to be used to provide financial support to the Club to:
i. enable its growth and development of golf at the Club
ii. improve facilities or undertake maintenance and repairs of the facilities of the Club for the enjoyment of members of the Club
iii. construct, alter, establish, provide and maintain facilities, furnishings, buildings, infrastructure or to otherwise undertake works at the Club
Funds raised by the Foundation will be applied to specific projects or to other significant improvements that fall beyond the capacity of the Club’s annual budget. The Foundation will consult with the Club Committee to identify the specific targets for fundraising initiatives that best serve current and future members. While projects will be identified and funded, it is also intended to build reserves so the Foundation can secure the Club’s Vision of being the premier golf club of choice in Brisbane.
The Governance
The Foundation will be governed by a voluntary and independent board of directors. The inaugural directors will be:
Stephen Deane
Cameron Gibson
Sue Lewandowski
Peter White
Phil Wikman (Chair)
These directors will form the initial members of the Foundation with the intention to invite other qualifying former office bearers of the Club to join the membership in the coming months. This will ensure the Foundation pursues its established purpose and performance to improve our great Club over the medium to long-term.
Next Steps
The Foundation is in its infancy and in the coming months will develop marketing and fundraising plans, budgets, brochures and documentation to support its objectives. A formal launch with the announcement of its first project will be made in November. You are invited to play an important role in helping the Foundation by supporting its activities and encouraging others to contribute. Specifically. the Foundation will seek your support in the upcoming annual membership renewal where a small voluntary tax deductible donation will be included in the notice.
Thank you in anticipation.
