Member Golfers Insurance Suite
In the most recent President’s Update, the Club advised Members that our insurers have removed the Member Golfers Insurance Suite from our insurance coverage effective from 1 October 2023. Since that communication, further details have become known which we will would like to share with all members.
The Member Golfers Insurance Suite provided a range of covers for members and the below provides a summary of our understanding of what was covered and what is no longer covered.
- Legal liability for bodily injury or death to someone other than the member or their family member, and legal liability for loss or damage to property owned or controlled by someone other than the member, whilst on golf club grounds. Will be covered under the Golf Australia Policy.
- Loss or damage to golf equipment such as playing clubs, golf bags and non-motorised buggies. Will no longer be insured.
- Injuries sustained by a member induced accident occurring whilst the member is on golf club grounds. Will no longer be insured.
- Damage to the member’s registered motor vehicle caused by a golf ball, falling tree or falling branch whilst it is parked within golf club grounds. To be confirmed by our insurers.
- Loss of or damage to the member’s motorised golf cart (privately owned) whilst on the golf club grounds. Will no longer be insured.
While the Club’s insurance brokers are looking for alternatives to the Member Golfers Suite Insurance, the market is very limited and at this time it is unlikely. We are confident our insurance policy is one of the broadest covers available still in the insurance market.
The Club has been advised that a member’s home and contents policy may provide coverage for point 1, 4 and 5. Additionally members may be covered by their private health insurance for point 3. It is recommended that you discuss your available coverage with your insurers to fully understand the implications on this major change.
The Club will be represented at an industry forum to discuss these change in more detail in mid-November. Any further learnings from that discussion will be communicated to members.
In the interim, please contact me via 0411 412 666 or geoff@brisbanegolfclub.com.au if you would like any further clarification.
