Captain’s Log – December 2023

We realise that there are more pressing matters for members and staff of The Brisbane Golf Club, but we wanted to send this note to give you a small distraction from any gloom that may be hovering around.

Another year nearly done means there are only 25 days until the jolly big man comes to visit…no, not Glenn Trimble, the one in the red suit with reindeers for pets. It also means that the golfing season is almost at a end with Closing Day on Saturday, 9 December, followed by the AGM that evening.

We won’t go into who won what this year, that will come in the Annual Report and presentation evening next year…but if you won something, good for you! For those that didn’t, there is always next year…or the year after. Suffice to say the golfing season was a success on many levels and not just with the golf, but also the course.

MiScore App

Even though this is the last Captain’s Log of the year, we have some new items to share with you all to make competitions funner…yes, it is a word and you’re welcome. The first item on the list are 2 new enhancements within the MiScore called Sidematch and Private Competition…they can’t do a 4BBB multiplier but they can do this. They are designed to be used during normal Club Competitions and you will find all the information in this link. MiClub Sidematch and Private Competition Instructions Now you can make sure you lost fair and square. These new features have been available since Monday 27th November.

Rules

Recently our Rules Guru, Peter Castrisos, took some members out onto the course to run through some rules of golf as they pertain to The Brisbane Golf Club. It was a successful session with more to be set up once Pete is done officiating on the Australasian Tour. Suffice to say, there are still learnings for all of us, regardless of whether you think you know the rules. The local rules for BGC can be found on the back of the scorecard as well as in the Local Rules Section of the MiScore app.

We would encourage all members to be familiar with these local rules as well as the daily local rules on the board outside of the Pro Shop. If there is any doubt during a round, please call the Pro Shop who will assist as best they can. In one of our previous Captain’s Logs, we provided an explanation for the more contentious rules at BCG and mentioned a couple of newer ones. As a refresher, please click on the image below to view the video.

NPV Shootout

The final was due to be played this Sunday 3rd of December, however given the circumstances we have decided to postpone the Final until Sunday January 21st 2024. We hope that all 19 players are still able to be involved on the new date.

Storm Season

It is also that time of year when we prepare our homes for the usual summer storms that roll through South East Queensland. Just like you do at home, we wanted to help you prepare for storms, or adverse weather. The Brisbane Golf Club has an Extreme Conditions Weather Policy and Playing Guidelines and Safety Practices which we would encourage you to read in order to stay safe in the event of a mid-round storm.
