Golf Restart Assistance Package for fire affected members
Without Prejudice
As explained in the President’s Update of 20th October 2023, and again in the special note of 2nd November 2023 titled Member Golf Insurance Suite, we remind members that the Club has, despite the best efforts of our general insurance brokers, not been able to obtain insurance cover for members’ golf equipment.
This was completely outside the control of the Club. This does not just affect our Club, but all golf Clubs insured by Zurich Insurance Australia Limited under the Australian Golf Insurance Scheme. It is the Club’s understanding that the entire scheme was running at a significant loss, as well as having product compliance issues, and that is why no other insurer has been prepared to take on the risk.
It was for this reason that the Club urged members obtain their own insurance cover with respect to their own property.
Nevertheless, in the interest of providing practical and meaningful support for affected members, and as a gesture of goodwill, but without any admission of responsibility or liability on the part of the Club, the Club is proposing to implement a Golf Restart Assistance Package for fire affected members who are not covered under their own insurance for lost/damaged equipment stored at the Club at the time of the fire. The planned Package features will be:
- Loan clubs will continue to be available to affected members through the Golf Shop for as long as reasonably required;
- The Club’s Golf Shop will sell replacement clubs to affected members who are not covered under their own insurance at nil profit to the Club, and will also pass through any lower prices achieved from special discounts for affected members that the Club is able to negotiate with its principal suppliers;
- The Club will provide Golf Shop credits to the value of $200 to affected members for the purchase of ancillary items (eg range finder, balls, tees, clothing). The Club is looking to obtain special pricing on a select number of items to assist affected members maximise this benefit;
- The Club will refund to member accounts any club storage fees for 2 months where applicable, being from the date of the fire to the end of January 2024 by which time, temporary storage arrangements will be in place; and
- The Club will also provide additional member guest vouchers (2) valid for 12 months.
Where affected members are partially covered under their own insurance, those members will be able to access points 1, 3, 4 and 5 above.
Again, at the request of our insurance advisers, we stress that the Club does not and cannot admit any liability or responsibility to members for lost/damaged equipment or any other property. Having said this, the Club is committed to doing what it reasonably can to assist members through this ordeal while addressing the losses the Club has itself suffered.
Members who have their own insurance covering their golf clubs stored away from their home may be better off accessing their own insurance to facilitate replacement, but the Club is unable to offer any advice to members on that issue and encourages members to consult with their individual insurers or insurance brokers about that.
Further details on this assistance package and how to access it are expected to be available in coming days. To start the process to replace your golf clubs please download and complete the Equipment Quote Request Form and email it to joe@brisbanegolfclub.com.au.
