Important President’s Message – Golf Shop Fire – Friday, 1 December
You would all now be aware of the sad news relating to our Golf Shop being destroyed by fire last night. Again, I wish to re-iterate that all staff and members are safe, and no injuries have occurred. Our Clubhouse and Golf Course are undamaged from the fire. Most of our fleet of motorised golf carts appear to have been spared but require further safety inspection and overall cleaning in view of possible smoke damage.
The Course will now remain closed to members until Monday. It is important that members respect the Course Closed Policy that is on our website in the Brochure Library. Health and Safety of our members is our primary concern over the weekend as we work with fire Investigation crews, insurance advisors and construct safety barriers around the Golf Shop precinct. I would ask that all members respect the importance of this safety message at this time.
On a positive note, I am pleased to announce that the Golf Course will re-open for play on Monday, 4 December at 9 am. The booking timesheets for play from Monday onwards will operate as per normal and a temporary golf shop will operate out of the Garden Room over the coming weeks. The Driving Range is closed until further notice as we have no practice golf balls at this time. The Club owned Motorised Golf Cart fleet as well as club push trolley buggies are unavailable to Members currently.
Obviously, some Members have lost their golf clubs and bags in the fire. We are endeavouring to urgently acquire a pool of golf clubs for the use of those Members. In the meantime, those members may have to play with used or borrowed sets of clubs. The Club is working with our insurers and seeking professional advice in relation to the Club’s position on this matter.
The Saturday Women’s Christmas Lunch will proceed as normal tomorrow also.
The golf fixtures for this weekend have been cancelled and the Shootout and Brisbane Shield will need to be re-programmed by our Captains.
I would like to thank all Members for their understanding at this difficult time for the Club. These regular President’s updates will continue over the coming days and will be the primary method of communication to Members. Our management team apologise that it is difficult to respond to all enquiries at this busy time, but I will try and answer all questions in my updates over the weekend.
Regards
Mark Deuble, President
