Important President’s Message – Golf Shop Fire – Wednesday, 6 December

As I write this update it is worth reminding myself and Members that it is less than 5 days since the devastating fire occurred in our Golf Shop. It is therefore remarkable and a credit to our staff that our Members are back playing and practising golf. Christmas functions and weddings have also been enjoyed at the Club and many Members have attended the Club simply to pay respects to Staff and the historic MT Stafford Building that was originally erected in 1963. I have been particularly struck by the multitude of sincere emotions on display and again it highlights to me the wonderful community that is The Brisbane Golf Club. I wish to thank all Members for their concerns, patience and humility as we navigate a path towards the new future for our Club.

We believe that the first phase of planning is now complete with the temporary setup in the Garden Room for our Golf Shop Staff. Many pieces of basic replacement equipment are on order, demonstration clubs and Member donation clubs have started arriving. While, we do not require any further golf club donations, I would like to thank again those Members who have contributed to this pool. Members should ask our Golf Shop Staff if they require any clubs from this resource. The removal of the destroyed Golf Shop may occur before Christmas, subject to contractors addressing any asbestos concerns.

On the matter of those Members who have lost golf clubs in the fire, we strongly recommend that they contact their private home and contents provider if they have not already done so. We understand there may be some Members who will be able to access a claim through their own insurance. Please let us know if you require a letter from the Club inthat regard. You can request a letter by emailing reece@brisbanegolfclub.com.au. Irrespective of outcome from the Club’s insurance and professional advice, Members should seek out this information from their private insurers.

The next phase of our planning involves clarification of insurance matters. We are having ongoing discussions with our insurers as well as obtaining independent professional advice. I am hopeful we will have more definitive answers for Members within the next week. These discussions are complex and involve planning for a new Golf Shop building, internal fit out and inventory replacement, as well as a clarification regarding those Members who have lost golf Clubs in the fire. The Staff and Committee are working tirelessly to provide these answers as soon as possible. We are also speaking with all major golf supply companies with a view to obtaining special one-off pricing for affected Members and speedy delivery of replacement golf clubs and equipment.

For those affected Members who wish to purchase new golf clubs through our Golf Shop we ask you to compelte the Equipment Quote Request Form which will help streamline this process.

Planning is also underway for setting up a new temporary demountable facility for the Pro Shop. Hopefully, this will occur within the next month.

As promised, we will continue to provide further details as soon as we are able. In the meantime, please enjoy your golf and use of our facilities in the leadup to Christmas. I also hope to see many of you at our AGM this Saturday at 6 pm.

Regards

Mark Deuble, President
