BGC on tour
This years Members Trip to Queenstown marks 15 years of BGC Australian & New Zealand golf trips. The six days away included golf at the 2024 NZ Open courses Millbrook – Coronet & Remarkables, unusual Arrowtown, and the incredibly scenic Jack’s Point.
Assistant Director of Golf Reece McRae led the group as guide, restaurant selector and golf comp organiser. We were also joined by Asia Tour Professional Maverick Antcliff who delighted us with his ‘resting’ golf prowess, as a golf comp partner and coach in a short game clinic. To us he played well in all conditions and took the tiger line on every single hole! Over drinks and dinner his stories highlighted life on the pro tour and tips for the following day’s swing thoughts!
Reece, a local in younger days, provided the home-grown perspective around Queenstown and on the courses. His choice of restaurants took us to the internationally recognised drawcards of Rata, Botswana Butchery, SODA and White & Wongs for feasts worthy of culinary notoriety. In addition, many of Queenstown’s respected thirst-quenching establishments were sampled at every opportunity amongst the group pre and post official gatherings.
A day off golf mid-week saw the group take on expeditions to wineries, Arrowtown, catch up with friends, more golf at Queenstown GC and wanderings around town. A special treat was snowfall on the majestic mountain tops.
Daily competition winners include Tristan Warburton (Millbrook – Coronet & Remarkables), David Prince (Arrowtown) and Deb Kember (Jack’s Point). The winner of the BGC Travellers Trophy went to Tristan Warburton who had an impressive 105pts for his best 3 out of 4 rounds. Runner up was David Prince and Scott Whitla finished 3rd on debut. Mystery 4BBB winners on the final day were Deb Kember and Joe Dowling.
To take part in a BGC Trip is to enjoy the company of members known and first met on the trip. Length of membership, handicap breadth, gender, and longevity perspectives made for vibrant conversation amongst singles, couples, boys group trippers and good friends. Going home with a smile & new friends is what BGC trips are all about. Thanks to Joe & Reece for organising a wonderful week. See you on the next tour.
