Women’s Pennant News – May 10 & 12
Friday 10th May was a beautiful day, with 3 pennant teams competing around Brisbane:
Sapphire Zone 2 – “The Kerry/Kellie Gang” played Wynnum at RQ, managing a very satisfying draw on the day. With Pat Goh, Allison Cook and Kelly Hill losing their games, and Lou Kelly, Kelly Stoddart and Kerry Estella winning theirs with Kate Morgan finishing all square.
Most of the players in this team are new to match play, but have all embraced the concept of golf as a team game, always giving it their best and in the process forging a wonderful team spirit. Enjoy your final game of the season.
Sapphire Zone 3 – the team who has the growing reputation of always having to “Give Shots”! With this week reaching a new record of 69!
Despite the seemingly insurmountable task, playing Ashgrove at McLeod, the team triumphed 4/3. Wi Robyn Wanless, Sue Eagleton, Millie Coorey and Vicki Mounts winning their games, and Anna Lyons, Leigh Francis and Angela Cottrell just falling short. With two games left it is hoped the “giving shots” record will not be broken again.
Friday Yellow Diamond, playing Indooroopilly at McLeod had another good week. With a rather unsettled start due to tee time changes, and messages being lost or not sent, fortunately a win by default was averted, as the Indooroopilly team scrambled to the tee. Despite the unusual start to the match, good golf ensued with Brisbane winning 4.5/2.5. Hannah Reeves, Aspen Sugars, Angelina Drakos and Carolyn Martin winning their games, and Lisa Schoutrop drawing hers for the final half point. Perri Ilott and Ann Fell, losing their games. Good luck to team for their remaining 3 games to be played at Brisbane, Wantima and Nudgee.
Weekend Yellow Diamond, playing at Keperra against Oxley on Sunday, had a rainy start to the day. Going down to the current competition winners 5.5 /1.5. Tammy Cole being the sole winner with Yvonne Butcher squaring her game. Jodi Holmes, Elizabeth Reilly, Jody Pezet, Deb Kember and Kym Knight all falling short. Two wins for the final two games would be a great end to the season.
Good luck to all players and caddies for the remainder of the season, and when thinking on their upcoming shots, just to have one simple thought in mind – “Sure and Far” – from the legendry “Old Tom Morris.”
