BGC win three in a row

The Brisbane Golf Club won the 2024 BDGA Div 1 Pennant yesterday, the Club’s third in a row. The title was secured after a 11.5-9.5 win against Keperra Country Golf Club at Keperra on Sunday in Round 5.

Since being in Div 1, BGC has now won an extraordinary five titles out of the last six seasons played. Seasons 2021 and 2022 were cancelled due to COVID-19.

The win also keeps BGC undefeated in 2024 and gives the Club the chance to better its undefeated season of 2018. In that season BGC had four wins and two draws and currently sits on four wins and one draw with one match still to play.

Next week Indooroopilly Golf Club will travel to BGC. They defeated RQ 12.5-8.5 on Sunday.

The win against Keperra was a true team effort with valuable points scored across the Opens, Masters and Juniors.

The Opens continued their undefeated season with a 6-5 win against Keperra. They sit on top of the table with a four-point lead and will win the Open pennant regardless of the result in Round 6. From a possible 55 points, our Opens have given up just 16.5 points or just over 3 points each week. This is a wonderful result given three of the five rounds so far have been played away.

Winners in the Opens against Keperra included Lachlan Jones 1up, Josh Liston 3&2, Ben Stieler 2up, Isaac Rahmani 3&1 and Rory Gorman, 3&1. George Giblett and Campbell Kerr squared their matches.

The Masters again fought hard with an overall win in play until the last hole in two of the five matches. Brian McKerr playing at number one, as a replacement for the unavailable Eugene Estella, won his match 1up. Stephen Deane and Ash Sturmer both squared their matches.

The battle for the individual pennant in the Juniors is a close one and both contenders in BGC and IGC recorded wins yesterday. The match this Sunday will determine the winner.

In BGC’s defeat of Keperra our winners in the Juniors were Chase Oberle 5&3, Elijah Rohas-Smith 2&1 and Caleb Marschke 5&4. Taj Egea squared his match.

Each year the team that finished fourth on the ladder is relegated to Div 2. The other match being played in Round 6 between Keperra and Royal Queensland Golf Club at Keperra will determine that Club. Keperra need to win that match by a margin greater than 5.5 points to stay in Div 1.

For the final game of the year, this Sunday at BGC, we encourage members to come out and catch all the action live. The Opens will tee off from Hole 1 from 7am while the Masters will tee off at 7am from Hole 12.

Following the matches, members are invited to attend an end of year celebratory lunch which will be held in The Tennyson Room and Member’s Lounge. Lunch and drinks will be complimentary.

For those unable to attend, live score updates will be available via Instagram.
