Board Update – April 2025

This message summarises the resolutions and updates discussed at the April Board meeting. Links to documents and online resources are in bold.

1. Green Resurfacing Program: The greens on Holes 19, 20, and 21 will re-open on Tuesday, 6 May 2025. The Hole 19 green will have had a 14-week grow-in period, while Holes 20 and 21 will have had 13 weeks. Due to disruptions caused by the recent cyclone, flooding and extended periods of wet weather, greens 19, 20 and 21 have been delayed slightly in their development. The overall condition of the greens is very good, and they will provide a consistent and true surface for all to use. They are, however, approximately two weeks away from reaching optimal playing condition. Works on greens 11, 12 and 13 will commence from Thursday, 8 May 2025.

2. Bunkers and course update: The Board discussed the strategic direction for bunkers on the course, including number, size and maintenance issues. Next, Course Superintendent Marcus Hartup will conduct an audit, to be followed by discussions with the Course Advisory Group. Read the latest Course update.

3. Board casual vacancy: Life Members, Full Member or Senior Member with two or more years’ continuous membership interested in filling the casual vacancy on the Board are invited to express interest by contacting Deb Kember, Geoff Moore or Andrew Mullis by Wednesday 14 May. Members with senior financial / business management expertise, preferably in a corporate environment, are particularly encouraged to discuss board involvement with the office bearers as we are seeking a nominee to offer their services as Treasurer in 2026.

4. Men’s Pennants: The Brisbane District Golf Association has published new pennant rules requiring players to live in the Brisbane area. The Club wrote to the BDGA requesting that the rules be rescinded because they devalue the competition, restrict members from playing and discourage elite players from joining our club. The rules are not being rescinded but an exemption process has been provided for clubs.

5. Tee layout and colours: The Match and Course Committees are considering modernising the layout of tee markers and their colours to provide 4 distinct course length options, highlighting the versatility of our course.

6. Membership update: Club Membership is full and a waiting list in place for 7-day membership. Following the payment of a waiting list fee and a guest fee of $95.00 per round, play is possible on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays if places are available. Membership will reopen once the green resurfacing is complete.

7. Kitchen refurbishment: The kitchen has been refurbished to provide a more versatile and functional working environment for the hospitality team. The back stairs have been upgraded to address safety matters.

8. Billboards: The billboards on club land on Tennyson Memorial Avenue and Fairfield Rad will not be dismantled as a new arrangement has been negotiated.

9. Designated Outdoor Smoking areas: Members are reminded that smoking and vaping are not permitted in any indoor or outdoor eating areas. Smoking is permitted on the Clubhouse balconies, carpark, course cart paths and roughs, with bins to be used for cigarette butts.
