Pace of Play and No Show Procedures
With the Winter months fast approaching, combined with the high demand we have on our course for play, the Match Committee believes its timely to remind everyone of our requirements around Pace of Play, as well as the unfortunate situation where members commit to a tee time, but don’t turn up to play
Pace of Play
The desired time to complete a round of golf at our Club is 4 hours and 15 minutes. Unfortunately there are some Members who complete their round outside this target time and while we understand there are at times, specific reasons for the slowness, as a rule, it is a situation that we must continue to monitor and, and where necessary, counsel individuals. To remind everyone of the Parameters regarding slow play infringements, here are the basic levels of member counselling over a three month period;
If you finish 15 minutes behind the group in front of you and outside 4 hours and 15 minutes for your round:
- 1st infringement is an email sent to the Members involved.
- 2nd Infringement is a face to face meeting with a Match Committee representative.
- 3rd infringement will result in the individual/s being relegated to the end of the field for a period of one month.
- 4th infringement will result in the individual being removed from the group or the group being split up.
The systems we use are reliable and it provides us real time data as to every player’s time performance, so just to remind everyone of the basics;
- Keep up with the group in front.
- Sign and enter your score card immediately at the end of each round.
Tips to Maintain a Good Pace of Play
- Be Ready: Have your club selected and plan your shot before it’s your turn.
- Play Ready Golf: Whoever is ready hits, rather than waiting for honours.
- Call Up Holes: all Par 3’s are now call up holes and must be used during all competition play.
- Marking Scores: When you arrive at the next tee scores can be recorded when players are teeing off, don’t all record scores at the same time then tee off.
- Limit Lost Ball Time: Follow the 3-minute rule when searching.
- Keep Up With the Group Ahead: Your pace should be measured by the group ahead—not the group behind you.
- Use Technology Wisely: GPS and rangefinders help save time when used efficiently.
- Move to the Next Tee: If you’ve lost your place in the field, the first two players to putt out should go straight to the next tee and tee off.
- Be Efficient on Greens:
- Line up putts while others are playing
- Putt out when appropriate instead of marking
Failure to turn up at your allocated tee time
This is unfortunately becoming a regular occurrence at our Club and one that disadvantages all Members. Going forward, this situation must cease purely out of respect for the playing partners and staff who control the time sheets. We are not looking at stopping members placing their partners down with them in a group as this forms part of our Club culture. There are sufficient emails and reminder texts issued at time of placement on the time sheet, as well as close to the allocated day, that should give all members a reminder that their name is on the time sheet and they have committed to play. To arrest this trend, the following procedures have been designed for all members, should a no show occur;
- 1st infringement will result in an email being sent to the individual concerned.
- If a 2nd infringement results within a 6 month period of the 1st, then the Member’s ability to automatically enter his or her name on the time sheet will be withdrawn for a month. Bookings can then only be completed by phoning the Golf Shop.
- If a 3rd infringement is recorded in that 6 month period, the Member will be required to meet with a Board member to discuss the matter.
Its not ideal that we have to bring in such measures but for the playing comfort of all members, we trust that this will go a long way to resolving these issues.
