Green Resurfacing Update

Greens 11, 12 and 13

The resurfacing of these greens is progressing well, with stolons now fully established. While these holes remain closed, we are taking the opportunity to complete associated works, including bunker reconstructions, fairway drainage installation and tee levelling. A new front tee has also been constructed on Hole 13. We are pleased with the progress to date.

Greens 19, 20 and 21

Surface coverage and presentation of these greens continue to improve, with roll quality meeting expectations. However, we have observed some emergence of Wintergreen on the collar edges of Green 19 and, to a lesser extent, Green 20. This is being addressed as follows:

• Multiple applications of herbicide will be applied to eliminate the Wintergreen. Some TifEagle may also be affected.
• Once these areas are fully treated, they will be replugged using certified TifEagle sourced from Twin View Turf.
• This process will not impact ball roll.

Cause of Wintergreen Emergence

During the initial resurfacing of these test greens, the perimeter was re-turfed with TifEagle and treated with a growth retardant. Unfortunately, the product used was not strong enough to fully eliminate the underlying roots of the previous Wintergreen collars, allowing some regrowth to occur.

What We’ve Changed

In response, the process was modified from Hole 11 onward. We now extend the shelling to include the collar area as well as the green, ensuring all Wintergreen root material is removed. This approach has proven successful on Greens 11, 12 and 13, which remain free of Wintergreen.

It’s important to note that the greens themselves are a clean TifEagle surface.

Collar Height Correction

Members may notice that the collars on Greens 19–21 have been cut at the same height as the putting surface. This was due to operator error and will be corrected over time to restore the intended difference in height between green and collar. A local rule is currently in place to guide play and is posted on the noticeboard outside the Golf Shop.
