Jones and McDougall Claim Club Champion Crowns

The Brisbane Golf Club’s Championship season reached a thrilling climax on Sunday, 22 June, as two remarkable contests unfolded to decide our 2025 Men’s and Women’s Club Champions. By the end of a dramatic day, Lachlan Jones and Susan McDougall had carved their names into club history, each taking home their first BGC Club Championship in unforgettable fashion.

For Lachlan Jones, the men’s final marked a chance at redemption. Just two years ago, he suffered a 8&7 defeat to Taj Egea in the 2023 final. On Sunday, the two talented players met again in a highly anticipated rematch, and this time, the script was rewritten.

Taj, playing off +3, surged to a 2up lead after the opening 18 holes. But Lachlan, rallied through the afternoon, gradually clawing his way back. With both players trading blows down the stretch, the match was finally decided on the 36th green, where Lachlan secured a hard-fought 1up victory.

It was the final chapter in a strong campaign for Lachlan, who qualified third before navigating past Cooper Clarke, Ilija Soldan, and the in-form Josh Liston to reach the final. Already a past Club Champion at Dubbo and Emerald Lakes, he now adds The Brisbane Golf Club to that impressive list. His focus now shifts to his fourth season of pennant golf commencing in mid July.

In the women’s final, Susan McDougall arrived on the championship stage for the first time, facing none other than 10-time Club Champion, Lynne Conroy, a player with decades of experience and a deep history at the Club. But Susan was undeterred. With a focused approach, she took a 3-up lead through the morning round, then stunned onlookers with an extraordinary run of eight consecutive winning holes in the afternoon to seal an emphatic 11/10 victory.

Susan qualified second and produced confident wins over Lesa Lambert and Jodie Holmes to book her place in the final. In claiming the title, she becomes the tenth different Women’s Club Champion in the past ten years, a clear reflection of the depth and strength of our women’s program.

Congratulations to both Lachlan and Susan, our 2025 Club Champions for their outstanding play. Their performances will long be remembered and proudly honoured on our prestigious Honour Boards.
