BGC Well Positioned ahead of Crucial Home Matches

While The Brisbane Golf Club is not sitting atop the ladder at the halfway mark of the 2025 BDGA Division 1 Pennant season, the team is well positioned with one win from three away matches.

Royal Queensland Golf Club and Pacific Golf Club currently share the lead, though both have benefited from playing two of their matches at home. Indooroopilly Golf Club sits equal third with BGC but has also played two home fixtures. BGC and Pacific are the only two teams who haven’t experienced a home loss.

BGC now enters a pivotal stretch with three consecutive home matches, beginning this Sunday against Indooroopilly. The outcomes of these matches will be critical in determining whether BGC can secure a historic fourth consecutive Division 1 title, an achievement no club has yet attained.

In Round 3, Pacific Golf Club proved too strong on their home course, defeating BGC 12.5–8.5. Meanwhile, Royal Queensland bounced back from their home loss to BGC by defeating Indooroopilly at Indooroopilly, 11–10.

Winning away from home is always a challenge, and it is encouraging that in both of this season’s away losses, BGC still managed to earn 8.5 points and had chances to win the match. A standout moment from Round 3 was the debut win by Junior Aahan Anand. Playing off a handicap of 1, Aahan delivered a superb approach shot on the final hole to win his match 1 up. This victory keeps our Juniors undefeated and at the top of the Junior individual pennant standings after three rounds.

The Masters team put up a strong fight against quality opposition, earning 1.5 points thanks to a win from Peter Hargreaves and a draw by Ian Burgess.

The Opens team experienced their first loss of the season, going down 6.5–4.5. However, the margin could have been narrower, with at least two matches decided in the final few holes. Congratulations to George Giblett (5&3), Sam Howse (5&3), Ben Stiler (4&3), and Matt Field (1 up) for their match victories. Craig Mahon also contributed with a drawn match.

BGC’s home campaign begins this Sunday against Indooroopilly, who will be eager to bounce back after a disappointing home loss to RQ last weekend. Having defeated BGC in Round 6 last season, Indooroopilly will arrive with confidence.

BGC is expected to welcome back 2023 Club Champion Taj Egea and Queensland Representative Tony Cho for Round 4.

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Elijah Rohas-Smith the very best as he departs for the United States this week to commence his collegiate golf career at the University of South Carolina.

We encourage as many BGC members as possible to support the team this Sunday morning. Matches will tee off at 7:00 am from both the 1st and 10th tees. Member support has already made a noticeable impact this season.

Team announcements for Round 4 will be published on Thursday. Live scoring will be available throughout the morning via our Instagram page.
