Volunteer Update
Yesterday a very hardy bunch of volunteers and staff braved a very cool morning and continued to clear the underbrush and overgrown vegetation on the golf course.
We attacked the messy area left side of the currently renovated 11th hole where many stray golf balls find themselves from the 11th and 12th tees. Balls in this area are difficult to find and if found can be unplayable and awkward to get back into play encouraging rules breaches and a serious slow play issue in this corner of the course.
The volunteers managed to load 7 or more large tractor driven trailer loads of dead branches and newly removed lower branches and unwanted self sown pest trees and shrubs.
Discovered in this area were attractive tall spotted gums, several Illawarra Flame trees alongside rainforest trees including the Jagera fruit bearing variety. All good stuff being choked and compromised by overgrowth, typical in many areas of the BGC property and needing to be maintained regularly.
Many thanks to Al Haydock, John Puttick, Janet Nathanson, Leigh Francis, Lisa Shoutrop, Rob Keers, Dennis May and Gerry O’Shaughnessy alongside our course staff Eric (trailer driver), Mark (chainsaw specialist) and Super Marcus (chainsaw trainee).
Our next effort is yet to be scheduled so will keep you all posted and we welcome any new members to join this dedicated group of passionate helpers.
Cheers
Lloyd Cotterill
