Board Update – August 2025

This message summarises the resolutions and updates discussed at the August Board meeting. Links to documents and online resources are in bold.

1. Congratulations: The Men’s Pennant team logged a 4 in a row season win. Thank you to all players, caddies and supporters for your commitment and contribution to the team effort. Read more.

2. Green replacement program: While greens are being resurfaced the fairways are closed for practice. The fairway closures provide a safe environment for course staff to complete works such as re-levelling tees, fixing the drainage in bunkers and work on out of play areas. Read more.

3. Bee apiary: A thriving colony of European honeybees is located between the 11th tee and the 12th fairway. Clear signage has been installed, and avoiding the area is advised. Golf Rules information will be available soon. People with known severe allergies should carry an epinephrine auto-injector such as an EpiPen. The Club cannot store or administer these devices. Read more.

4. Handicap management: The GOLF Link software which calculates our handicaps is being replaced by Golf Australia CONNECT. From October 2:  A new Official GA App will replace the existing GA Handicap App and access your GA Handicap at www.GOLF.com.au. GA advise that from the evening of 28 September through to 2 October rounds of golf played will not be handicapped. This may extend up to two weeks depending on how long MiClub (our service provider) takes to complete the integration.

5. Membership closure: New Membership, and membership upgrades, are currently closed until Stages 3 and 4 of the green resurfacing program is completed in January 2026. Downgrades from Full to 6-day membership are on hold because of the planned rebalance of membership categories as part of the Member Benefits Review which will introduce new caps for Full and 6-day membership.

6. Waiting list: A waiting list is in place for new members, membership upgrades and downgrades. New members will be prioritised behind members who have previously advised of a membership category movement. Limited membership may be an option on an annual basis, however, there is no guarantee a Full or 6-day membership will be available when members wish to return. Members downgrading membership during the renewal period will be placed after new members on the waitlist.

7. Buggy shed thefts: Three thefts from the buggy sheds have occurred within the past two weeks. New locks will be installed as soon as possible, and security cameras will be installed at the entry points to the buggy sheds.

8. Accidental damage: GA advised recently that from 1 March 2025 members are required to pay a $1000 excess on all damage claims on club property or surrounds. BGC will fund the excess for members who report accidental damage incidents to the CEO, enabling the club to make an insurance claim.

9. Member Memorials: A site for a single dedicated Memorial Wall is currently under consideration. Families who wish to invest in a memorial plaque for a loved one who has had a strong association with the Club should contact CEO, Geoff Kuehner, at geoff@brisbanegolfclub.com.au.

10. Course update: See video course updates on Instagram.

11. Dine at the Club: Enjoy the menu created by our Executive Chef, Gillian Hirst with playing partners, club friends and guests. Sample Menu. Dine around the Garden Room or in the Members Lounge.
