BGC Shines at Queensland Golf Industry Awards Night

The Brisbane Golf Club continues to set the standard for golfing excellence, with a stellar showing at the Queensland Golf Industry Awards Night held at The Star Casino on the Gold Coast last night.

Asha Flynn, the Club’s Women’s and Junior Development Manager, headlined a night of celebration, taking out the prestigious Coach of the Year (Game Development) award for an incredible third year in a row. This recognition comes as no surprise to those familiar with Asha’s tireless dedication and outstanding results, both on and off the course.

Asha was selected from six finalists and will now go on to represent Queensland at the National PGA Awards, held alongside the Greg Norman Medal in late November. Remarkably, Asha has already claimed the national title for the past two years.

Asha’s impact at the Club is far-reaching. Each term, she delivers coaching to over 120 juniors across 48 programs, and works closely with 30 students from St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School and 12 Australian Golf Foundation scholars. Her Women’s Series clinics are among the most successful in the country, with more than 150 women participating across more than 30 six-week programs annually.

Her influence also extends well beyond Brisbane. This year, Asha led a Rural Tour to Dalby and Kingaroy, introducing 90 regional students across the week-long coaching tour. She continues to mentor numerous PGA Associates and recently launched the Flynn Scholarship, an initiative providing juniors with unique behind-the-scenes experiences at events like the Australian Open and PGA Championship.

In accepting the award, Asha warmly thanked the Club’s Board and management for their ongoing support over the past eight years, offering particular gratitude to Director of Golf, Joe Janison, describing him as a “second dad” and “the perfect role model”.

In further recognition of BGC’s junior excellence, the Club was named Junior Golf Program of the Year, beating 11 other finalists. This is the second time in recent years BGC has claimed this honour, winning it in 2021.

Adding to the night’s success, two of the Club’s outstanding young members were also recognised with individual honours. Chase Oberle was named Junior Male Amateur Golfer of the Year following a remarkable 2025 season, during which he claimed six tournament victories. Billy Dowling received the Male Amateur Golfer of the Year award after an impressive international campaign, including standout performances at The Amateur Championship and US Amateur, where he reached the quarter-finals in The Amateur.

We congratulate Asha, Chase, Billy, and the entire coaching team at BGC for their commitment, passion, and achievements. The Brisbane Golf Club is proud to be home to such talent. A total of 27 awards were presented during the evening, and we extend our congratulations to all the winners on their well-deserved recognition.
