Green Replacement Program Update
It gives me great pleasure in providing this update for you all.
As you have most likely seen, Atlas Contractors, along with Marcus Hartup and his team, have worked tirelessly over the past several weeks to complete Stage 3 of our greens resurfacing program, which included 12 greens. Thanks to perfect weather conditions, the construction phase of Stage 3 has been finished two weeks ahead of schedule and on budget.
The timing of planting stolons from today on the 12 completed greens is as follows:
- 2, 7 and 8 – 5 weeks ago
- West Green – 4 weeks ago
- 3,4,5 and 6 – 2 weeks ago
- 1 and 9 – 1 week ago
- 10, 17 and 18 – Today.
We have allowed 10 weeks for these greens to grow in, and we are doing everything within our control to meet that target. While it is still too early to comment on 1, 9, 10, 17 and 18, we are pleased with the progress of 2, 7, 8, West Green, 3, 4, 5 and 6 so far. The efficiency of the construction phase has also provided us with an additional two weeks, should we need them.
Holes 11, 12 and 13 improved during the period we were able to rest them. Although 11 and 13 still have some bare patches, we are seeing further improvement each day. We have also seen positive progress in 20 and 21 in recent days. Once 2, 7 and 8 are ready for play, we will look to rest those greens as well.
In addition to the resurfacing, there has been extensive work on several holes that have been out of play including:
- a new front tee on the 2nd.
- the 7th tee raised in height, and enlarged
- the middle tee on the 6th increased in size by a substantial margin
- the low point on the 3rd fairway remodelled to allow a more accurate transfer of water in the peak rain periods
- the front tee on the 9th increased in size
- bunkers on the 6th and 12th removed
- fairways sprayed to remove foreign grass
- rough sprayed to remove wire grass
- continued tidy up of our out of play areas
- when time has permitted more bunker drainage improvements.
We are fortunate to have at our disposal such professional contractors such as Atlas.
We remain on track to finalise the green replacement program, with Stage 4, resurfacing holes 14, 15 and 16, expected to commence in mid-January 2025 as planned. Our plan is to not start these holes until we have 18 greens back in play.
We understand this is a difficult time for members and we appreciate your support and patience throughout this process.
As always, if there are any questions on the program, don’t hesitate to contact myself at geoffm@brisbanegolfclub.com.au.
