Tee Marker Update

As we look ahead to 2026, we are pleased to share an important update regarding our course setup and the direction of our Club moving forward.

From Saturday, 28 February 2026 (Men’s Opening Day), The Brisbane Golf Club will transition from traditional gender-based tee colours to a skills-based, gender-neutral tee system. This change aligns with the direction of many leading clubs across Australia and follows the strong encouragement of Golf Australia to adopt more inclusive and ability-focused tee structures.

New Tee Colours – Reflecting Our Club Identity

Our current tees will be replaced with colours that reflect the club’s heritage:

  • Navy Blue – formerly Blue
  • Gold – formerly White
  • White – formerly Red
  • Sky Blue – formerly Yellow

These tees will be handicapped accordingly, ensuring fair and appropriate competition conditions. In addition, Black Tees will continue to be used for major championships and elite events.

Why the Change?

The move away from traditional gender-based tees allows our members to choose a tee that best matches their ability, not their gender.

We hope this encourages:

  • Our talented women golfers who would like the challenge of playing from longer tees, and
  • Men and Women who may benefit from moving forward to a shorter tee without hesitation or stigma.

This evolution supports our commitment to making the game more accessible, enjoyable, and relevant for all players.

Introducing the New Forward “Sky Blue” Course

The new Sky Blue tees will deliver a true forward course, using a combination of new and improved teeing areas. These include:

  • 2nd hole: new forward tee positioned in front of the water
  • 6th hole: new dedicated forward tee
  • 7th hole: enlarged tee providing more forward options
  • 8th hole: existing forward tee in front of the cart path
  • 9th hole: improved forward tee
  • 10th hole: existing forward tee originally built for the temporary practice fairway
  • 13th hole: upgraded forward tee
  • 17th hole: existing forward tee in front of the water

This work allows us to offer four distinct course settings for members to choose from on any given day, promoting flexibility, enjoyment, and course variety. The new forward course has now been formally measured and is currently being rated by Golf Australia.

What Happens Next?

In preparation for the February rollout, the existing tee markers will soon be removed for professional repainting into the new club colours. During this transition period, we’ll use our spare markers to provide two tee positions per hole. One will be placed at the current red position while the other tee position will be placed at either the current blue or white position depending on the competition of the day. The physical colour of these spare tees are yellow and blue.

This will allow play to continue seamlessly while the new markers are finalised.

The Board is excited about this progressive change, which reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, member experience, and modernisation. We believe this transition will enhance how members interact with the course and provide a more welcoming environment for players of all abilities.

Thank you for your support as we continue to evolve and strengthen The Brisbane Golf Club for the future.

Kind regards
