Celebrating a Remarkable Achievement – Billy Dowling’s 2026 Australian Amateur Victory

Members are warmly invited to attend a special celebratory lunch on Friday, 20 March 2026, at 12 midday in the Tennyson Room to honour Billy Dowling’s outstanding victory at the 2026 Australian Amateur Championship. This important gathering will formally recognise a magnificent achievement that has brought great pride to The Brisbane Golf Club and its members.

Billy’s triumph at the Australian Amateur Championship, played last week at the Western Australian Golf Club and Wanneroo, was a superb performance on one of the premier stages in Australian amateur golf.

Our research shows Billy is only the third member of The Brisbane Golf Club to win the Australian Amateur Championship, a remarkable achievement in the Club’s proud history. We are also delighted to recognise that Louis Dobbelaar secured the Australian Amateur title in 2021and Ernie Gill won in 1906. In addition, we proudly acknowledge that another distinguished member, Tom Arnott, was crowned the 1993 Australian Junior Champion.

Billy will be our Guest of Honour on the day, joined by his team, including Mum, Janet, Dad, Chris and Coach Nancy, as we celebrate not only the victory itself but also the dedication, commitment and support behind it.

We are delighted that the afternoon will be compered by Pat Welsh, one of Queensland’s most respected and long-serving sports journalists. Pat enjoyed a distinguished career with Channel 7 News in Brisbane spanning several decades, covering major sporting events across rugby league, golf, the Olympic Games and many other codes. Known for his deep knowledge of sport and engaging interview style, Pat will conduct a special interview reflecting on the championship, the journey behind it, and the team effort that has supported Billy along the way.
