Foundation Green Announcement

The Brisbane Golf Club is delighted to announce that the new East Practice Green, currently under construction, will be named The Foundation Green. The name recognises the significant $50,000 contribution from The Brisbane Golf Club Foundation (the Foundation) towards its establishment. The Foundation Green forms part of the Hole 1 project, which has a total cost of approximately $300,000.

In recent years members have been invited to contribute to the Foundation at the time of subscription renewal and at other times throughout the year. Donations made through the Australian Sports Foundation are tax deductible and provide the opportunity for the Foundation to support the Club with key projects. Earlier contributions supported the relocation of the hut and the purchase of the ball dispensing machine located on The Driving Range. Naming the new practice facility the Foundation Green, acknowledges the collective commitment of members who continue to invest in the long-term future of our Club through the Foundation.

The Hole 1 project provides important improvements to both access and safety. The previous East Practice Green, next to the Garden Room, was elevated and only accessible by stairs on one side, which created maintenance challenges and wear at entry and exit points. Its proximity to the first tee also raised a safety concern due to the risk of balls entering the practice area. With upcoming Garden Room renovations requiring additional space, relocating to a new single-level green closer to the Golf Shop was a practical solution to create much needed space and ease traffic around this popular hub.

The Hole 1 works are progressing well and remain on schedule. Construction of the two new tees is complete and we expect to commence play from these tees on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The Foundation Green will be a high-quality short game practice facility. It is scheduled to be stolonised on Wednesday, 25 February 2026. Subject to favourable conditions we anticipate it will be ready for play in late May to early June 2026.

BGC President Deb Kember said the project stands as a proud example of how the Club’s focus on improvement is deeply rooted in the generosity, involvement, and foresight of its community. “The Foundation Green and new 1st tees are a considered and strategic investment in our course’s safety, functionality and enduring quality. Right from the first shot of the day, these upgrades enhance both playability and enjoyment. They also address essential access and safety issues.”

Chair of the Foundation, Phil Wikman, said the outcome demonstrates the value of collective member support. “The Foundation was established to support and strengthen the growth and development of our Club. We are pleased that members’ donations and their participation in Foundation events like the US Masters’ Calcutta have enabled the Foundation to contribute to the establishment of the Foundation Green as part of the broader Hole 1 project.”

Members wishing to learn more about the Foundation’s contribution, or how they can further support future Club initiatives through the Foundation, are encouraged to contact Chair Phil Wikman (foundation@brisbanegolfclub.com.au) or visit the Foundation section of our website.

Thank you to the Foundation and all members for their continued support and we look forward to providing further updates as the project progresses.

Yours sincerely
