Tuesday Opening Day – Welcome Address
Good morning, everyone, and welcome back and welcome to our new members.
I hope you all enjoyed a refreshing break and are feeling excited about the new season ahead. It’s wonderful to see such a great turnout today.
Our green replacement program has gone extremely well, and we can all look forward to enjoying an improved course, along with our new coloured tee markers.
As we begin the new golfing year, I hope many of us achieve our personal goals throughout the season. More importantly, let’s continue to enjoy the friendships we’ve built, make new connections, and share plenty of laughs along the way.
Golfing Matters
Handicap Ranges
These remain unchanged for Midweek competitions:
- A Grade: plus to 21
- B Grade: 22 to 28
- C Grade: 29 to 45
Monthly Medals – C Grade
- C Grade Monthly Medals will be played as Stableford, unless the event is a Stroke qualifying round, in which case the entire field will play stroke.
- There will no longer be separate Stableford and Stroke leaderboards for C Grade Monthly Medals.
Ball Rundown
- Run-down prizes this year will be valued at $12 each.
Competitions and Playing Arrangements
Winter Cup
- The Winter Cup has been discontinued, as it was originally designed to increase participation in Thursday competitions and has not achieved this aim.
- Instead, we will introduce more 4BBB and two-person Ambrose events on Thursdays.
First Hole Update and Tees
The first hole has been updated with new tee positions and will now be played as a par 4.
Tees
- We are now using course-rated tee colours. From front to back these are: Sky Blue, White, Gold and Navy Blue.
- On any given day, players may choose which tee they play from, except in Honour Board events where the tee colour will be white.
- Please remember that your handicap will change depending on the tee you choose, which may place you in a different grade. Be mindful of this, particularly for nearest-the-pin prizes marked A, B or C Grade
Centurion Club
- To qualify, to be a Centurion your age plus handicap off your chosen tee must total 115 or more.
- As an example, if your handicap is 45, you will need to be 70 or over to qualify as a Centurion.
- If you qualify, you may play off your chosen tee in any competition including Honour Board Events. However, you will only be eligible to win Nett events from this tee.
Eclectic
- The Eclectic competition will not be run this year due to uncertainty around the course layout with holes 14,15 & 16 out until at least May.
Representative and Major Events
Pennants
- We are fielding three teams this year: Friday Gold, Friday Silver, and Sunday Gold.
- The selection process is underway, with the season commencing in April.
- This year, the Sunday Gold and Friday Silver teams will be playing on the days they host. We would welcome volunteers to assist on these days with tasks such as spotting and directing visiting players around the course. The hosting dates are Sunday 19 April and Friday 24 April.
- If anyone is interested in caddying, please let us know. A Pennant volunteer booking sheet will be available for these days.
Club Championships
- This year we introduce an A Grade Plate.
- In A Grade, the top 16 will qualify: the top 8 will contest the Championship, and the next 8 will play for the A Grade Plate.
Shootout
For those unfamiliar with the event:
- Entry fee is $25, and it is a mixed event.
- Qualifying rounds are Monthly Medals from March to October on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Your best 4 rounds count, and a minimum of four qualifying rounds is required.
- The top 19 qualify and tee off together and 2 players drop out per hole until you find the winner on the ninth hole.
- This event is held in November, with a substantial cash prize on offer.
Captains Challenge
- We will continue to honour past captains on the last Friday of each month.
- The first captain to be honoured this year will be Robyn Elphinstone at the March Captains Challenge.
- Other captains to be recognised later in the year include Liz McReynolds, Joan Fisher and Margaret Tormey. Dates will be confirmed and advised once finalised.
Information and Support.
The Women’s Golf Handbook and the Women’s Key Dates on the app are the best sources of information. The Women’s 2026 Handbook is not up yet; there have been some teething issues. Hopefully it won’t be too long.
The booking timesheet really is the bible and is updated regularly if changes occur.
