Course Update – Tuesday, 10 March 2026

The course has had plenty on to start the year, most notably, the completion of the Greens Replacement Program, which was capped off on the 26th of February as we stolonised the new Foundation Putting Green. Despite threats of heavy rainfall for the last three weekends, we’ve managed to get away fairly unscathed. The last couple days has been the worst, purely due to the non-stop nature of drizzle and lack of sunlight.

Course Conditions

Greens: Improving weekly, speeds are still inconsistent with the variable Greens ages and growth rates. Clipping yields are starting to get more stable now that we’ve stopped trying to promote rapid growth through the newest Greens. At this stage our main priority remains with providing a smooth healthy surface whilst the Greens start to mature. The edges are filling in, and some works have been carried out to speed up this process. Constant plugging and works are being done to eliminate bare areas and encroachment.

Fairways: Coverage is good, a bit of mite activity on some fairways that we have been targeting for the past couple of months which we are hopeful to have knocked on the head and will selectively apply fertilizer to encourage growth in these areas. The rainfall as of late has given the course a boost in colour, and will put the fairways in good stead as temperatures cool.

Tees: A light verti-cut was welcomed on the Tees recently, which will aid in leveling out inconsistencies from divots and remove thatch build up. Once stolons were collected and the Tees mown off, the surfaces is playable again. A fairly quick and painless process that is invaluable to turf health. A friendly reminder to fill your divots around the golf course, as this will aid in turf recovery, and keep playing surfaces smooth.

Bunkers: We’ve been managing the bunkers pretty well through the summer, thanks partly to the lack of severe weather events. They are holding a fair amount of water from this weekend’s rain, and we will do our best to get them back into play as quickly as we can.

Rough: The rough has seen improvements from 12 months ago, with considerably less weeds on certain holes thanks to our herbicide program. This will continue heading into next season.

Maintenance Updates

  • We are continuing on with our light-grooming on the Greens to assist smoothness and speed, as well as the weekly top-dress (weather pending) which will likely start to go to a fortnightly program once temperatures cool.
  • The 1st Tee complex is back in play and has been cut down to Tee height to match the rest of the course. The surrounds will begin to be mown down gradually to tie-in with the new Putting Green surrounds. All Areas of the new 1st Tee and Putter will be short cut turf, mown at 10mm (Tee & Fairway height).
  • Clubhouse gardens and landscape areas are beginning to take shape now we have a dedicated staff member to patrol them. We will look to add some new plants and colours around the clubhouse and course to revitalise some of the tired landscape areas we have.

Upcoming Works

  • The 16th Fairway bunker has been significantly reduced, with new drainage put in place and new bunker lining to be installed later this week.
  • The 2nd Bunker is next on our to do list to fix the compromised drainage and repair the lining before adding new sand.

Bunker and drainage work take time when scheduling them through play, and we ask that members be patient as we work through these small projects to further enhance the member experience.
