Senior Teams Challenge – Match Report v Redcliffe (Semi-Final)
Our Senior Teams Challenge played their semi-final at Redcliffe today in a must-win situation. In a close tussle all day they finally went down 3.5/2.5. it was a really great effort and, if a few things had gone our way, the result might have been reversed. But that’s golf, as we all know.
Patrick Dixon was the non-playing captain today and did a sterling job. Patrick also sent me a summary of the matches.
- Ian Burgess played in the marquee match today with Deano being away playing seniors’ golf on the Gold Coast. Burgo was two down after six holes but came back strongly to win 3/2 – a really good effort
- Darryl Stuckey was one down after 15 but found a way to square the match on the 18th. Well done Darryl
- Phil Lynem was the only player to lead all day for a 3/1 comfortable win
- Craig James drew the short straw by coming up against a very strong opponent in hot form to go down 4/3
- In the first 4bbb match despite some excellent golf from Geoff Moore, he and Clark Anderson went down 4/3; and
- Ash Stewart and Richard Peacock fought hard all day finally leveling the match on the 16th hole. Unfortunately, Ash’s put on 18 to square the match lipped out and denied BGC a 3/3 result. However, even if we’d been able to square this match, Redcliffe would have won the day with more holes won.
I will shortly send a summary of each player’s individual match record to see who wins the MVP award for the year. Congratulations to the whole team for a great year of match play golf played in really good spirits. The Senior Teams Challenge concept is a beauty and it is a shame that we can’t enter two teams due to the large number of members who have indicated that they would like to play. Unfortunately, the rules are quite clear – to get two teams we need a 36-hole layout!
I have really enjoyed being involved this year and supporting a great bunch of players.
Bring on next year!
Rob Brown, Team Captain
