Volunteer News
The Committee appointed Dean Castrisos as Men’s Vice Captain following the resignation of Dave Raman. Dave has commenced an exciting new voluntary role at the Club.
Over the last two years as Vice Captain, Dave recruited and supported many top junior players to become involved in our Club community to the point that we have formalised the role as the Pennant & Elite Player Manager.
Dave also supported Men’s Captain Ash Stumer with the Captaincy and helped the Committee work through Club Rule changes that saw the Men’s Vice Captain replaced on the Committee by the Women’s Captain. We appreciate all the passion and energy he brought to the Vice Captaincy.
Introducing Dean Castrisos as Men’s Vice Captain
Dean brings a musical background to the Vice Captaincy as a broadcasted authority on Beatles music. He joined the Club as a junior in 1985, commencing a long-standing rivalry with his Dad, Life Member Peter Castrisos, leading to hearty debates about which Castrisos has won the oldest honour board event.
Dean has several honour board events to his name winning the 1998 Lamington Cup with David Fleming and the 2000 Men’s Foursomes Championship with Warwick Oxenford. His consistently low handicap led to many opportunities to represent the Club in Pennants. Dean’s hole-in-one record is notable. He aced the 19th during a lesson with Professional Lee Eagleton in 2015 which apparently involved incentives! His official hole-in-one was on the 7th in its first week as a par 3 in 1998. Dean will remain as a General member on the Committee, continuing his quest to make every day at the Club a great day.
Introducing Dave Raman as the Pennant & Elite Player Manager
David has always believed that life should be lived as close to the “edge” as possible, though he does wonder about those who have gone over it! A golfer for about 35 years, he joined the Club in 2012 on Brett Ogle’s suggestion.
Dave appears on several of our honour boards though a special win was the 2022 Brisbane Shield with wife Amber. His favourite hole at BGC is the 15th as he considers it a great short par 4, making even the best players think about a strategy to keep the ball on the green! Dave is passionate about supporting young women and men to develop their golfing skill and confidence within a community environment. As pennant manager David hopes to help the team to win three Division One titles in a row this year.
Dave intends to recruit athletes to help develop the pennants program. He plans to develop relationships with current BGC junior players to help fast-track their progress and make members proud that the Club is being represented with pride at elite golf events nationally and internationally. With the Committee’s wholehearted support, he is aiming to position BGC as a destination club for highly talented golfers from across Australia and international locations, providing a welcoming and supportive Club environment and a solid home base for players.
