Committee Update July 2024

This message summarises the resolutions and updates discussed at the July Committee meeting.

1. Management Team news: Congratulations to Tyla Vinter, former member of the Golf Operations Team who gained a promotion to Assistant Professional/Golf Operations at Redcliffe Golf Club. Congratulations to Acting Course Superintendent (CS) Alex Blakey for his leadership and management of the team during the transition period and his confirmation as Assistant CS. The new CS, Marcus Hartup started work at BGC today as does Connor Whitlock – PGA Associate Trainee.

2. Driving range restoration and upgrade: Shaping and turfing continue on the driving range. The concrete cart path to the driving range is completed and the gazebo roof on the comfort station is being installed. Thanks to our volunteers who helped plant hundreds of new plants. Latest completion date estimate is mid-August with an opening date to be advised to ensure the turf is bedded down.

3. Locker room refurbishment: Work will commence in September on the smartening up the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Benchtops, shower and toilets the fixtures and fittings will be replaced. Lighting and floors will be overhauled and the library in the women’s locker room moved into a common area from where the temporary pro-shop currently operates. Each locker room will take approximately 5 weeks, commencing with the men’s followed by the women’s. NVP Constructions and BGC Member, Peter Walker – will be managing the works.

4. Member Agreements: Following initial work and feedback in April on the Buggy and Cart Storage Agreement, the Committee and Management Team reviewed all member agreements, ie. Playing Terms and Conditions, Golf Equipment Storage, Motorised Cart Agreement, and the Shed Licence. The Club lawyers also provided advice on inclusions and exclusions to ensure clarity, consistency and the safety of Members and their guests whilst on the course. The final draft documents are now available for members to provide any comments and questions by Wednesday 21 August, prior to finalisation at the August Committee meeting.

5. Membership Renewals: Members will receive their renewal notice from 19 August. Increases in the operational expenses are the basis of the 5% subscription increase. The renewal notice will include the annual subscription and a range of voluntary items.

6. Bunker Rake Trial: Last call for thoughts and recommendations about the most effective type of rake for our bunkers. Samples are on display in the West practice green bunker. Email alex@brisbanegolfclub.com.au by Friday 9 August.
