Course Update – Wednesday, 30 October 2024
The following course update has been prepared by our Course Superintendent, Marcus Hartup and Assistant Course Superintendent, Alex Blakey. These will be published fortnightly in Member News and also on the Feed in our App. Videos will also be produced again on a regular basis starting shortly.
Course Update – Wednesday, 30 October 2024
- Weather wise the cooler mornings seem to be behind us and we have had some showers and a few Storms assist to green up the course.
- The greens have begun to perform like greens again, following the recent renovation. Ball roll is getting smoother by the day, and they are beginning to tighten up now they’ve had a couple of applications of plant growth regulator.
- In the coming week we will look to top dress the greens again, which we will then back off to a fortnightly program to ensure we have a consistent ball roll on our ever-changing green complexes.
- The greens are stimping at 10ft as of today.
- The weak areas are beginning to tie in, and we will continue to dust regularly and manage these throughout summer.
- It is worth noting the green edges will improve. These areas were previously the Zoysia collars that were mown to green height.
- Works on hole 3 continued this past fortnight with turf being laid. A swale is being constructed to push water collected from this area into the creek, and this is almost complete.
- Hole 19 is also receiving some attention with new turf and a bit of reshaping to improve the drainage of that hole.
- Tees are back to almost full coverage coming out of winter and we will manage the growth of them in the warmer months.
- Fairways are looking good, a few patch jobs will be completed in the coming days to achieve even better coverage.
- The rough took quite a hit from the most recent herbicide application, which was expected. We did also apply some nutrition into the rough to kickstart the wintergreen as to not increase the likelihood of bare patches. You can see the foreign grass and weeds really die back, and the wintergreen couch start to filter its way through. This is a similar process to what was followed on the fairways 12 months ago.
- Bunkers are being detailed and raked regularly, and we continue to move sand into the playing zones and inspect wet bunker bases for poor drainage with our camera. We have already cleared a number of blocked pipes which will improve the drainage of our bunkers.
- The gardens around the Clubhouse were all removed thanks to our WorkReady crew. We are pleased to announce that three of our WorkReady crew have started employment on course.
- The Club has purchased a replacement grinding unit which was lost in the floods of 2022. Our new grinding unit should arrive this week which we are all looking forward to. This will ensure we have always got the highest quality of cut on our turf surfaces, further improving turf health moving forward.
- Brisbane City Council has also been on site (Pipe Management Australia) to assess and clean the Stormwater that enters the course through Fairfield Rd. On Monday, they vacuumed 6,000 litres of silt out of the pipe (most likely still in there from the recent floods) and they are back on site today to finish up and ensure the pipe integrity passes the visual inspection.
- We have also reported the water leak at the front entrance to BCC. They are saying it should be rectified with 10 days.
- The Golf Shop is coming together and work has started on our new landscaping at the front entrance, around the Golf Shop and in the forecourt.
- A strong focus on weed removal has already begun and will continue as we battle the conditions through the summer.
If you have any questions or feedback on the course, please forward it to our CEO, Geoff Kuehner via geoff@brisbanegolfclub.com.au. He will forwarded it to Marcus and Alex for a response.
