2025 US Masters Calcutta Sweep

On behalf of the Board of The Brisbane Golf Club Foundation Ltd I am pleased to announce the launch of the Foundation’s 2025 US Masters’ Calcutta Sweep. The sweep begins today and runs through to the US Masters beginning on 10 April 2025.

For those not familiar with a Calcutta Sweep, or perhaps not involving a golf event, I will explain a little about how our sweep works.

The 2025 US Masters Calcutta Sweep is a game conducted on this year’s US Masters enabling those wishing to play to:

  • buy a raffle ticket for a chance to be allocated, by lot, a group of players in the event; and/or
  • bid in an auction for each of the allocated groups of players.

Prizes are awarded initially to those whose tickets are drawn and ultimately to those who have successfully bid for groups of players among whom are players who achieved success at the Masters. (See Player Group examples below)

So firstly, from today, tickets in a raffle are available for purchase at the Club for $10, 6 for $50 or 13 for $100. On Thursday 10 April, the Foundation will hold a Calcutta Luncheon at the Club where 15 raffle winners will be drawn. Each ticket holder drawn becomes the Initial Owner of a group of players in the 2025 US Masters.

Secondly, each of the playing groups is then auctioned at the Calcutta Luncheon with each Initial Owner receiving 40% of the highest bid for the respective group with another 40% of each highest bid going to the Prize Pool. The owner of the highest bid for each group becomes the Ultimate Owner of that playing group and shares in the spoils of the Prize Pool.

The Prize Pool is created from 60% of the raffle proceeds and 40% of the highest bids in the auction. While it is difficult to estimate the final size of the Prize Pool, if all the tickets are sold and we have a successful, competitive auction, the Prize Pool could come in at $15,000 – $20,000, maybe more.

The Ultimate Owner of the group which has among its players the 2025 US Masters’ Winner, could win $10,000 in cash or more subject to the level of participation. Other cash prizes are available for the runner up, the leader after each of the first three rounds as well as a number of other exotic categories. All prizes are summarised below.

One of the endearing features of a Calcutta Sweep is that it enables those playing to pool resources to form syndicates. For instance, why not a match bet in a round of golf where the losers buy the whole group tickets in the Calcutta Sweep. Give the group a Syndicate name, which you can put on the ticket butt, and if that ticket is one of the 15 drawn the whole group has an initial stake in the Playing Group and receives proceeds from the auction. Then there is the auction itself where syndicates can be formed to secure the most fancied groups with a higher chance of gaining some of the Prize Pool. The auction can become very exciting.

The Calcutta Luncheon on 10 April brings together the raffle draw, the auction and a magnificent three course feast prepared by our executive chef Gillian Hurst. Mark that date in your diary. It will be a fun afternoon leading into the Augusta National event starting that night. More information on the luncheon will be sent out later this month.

This Calcutta Sweep is a great opportunity to involve a lot of members at the Club in an exciting and suspenseful game as well as raising much needed funds for the Foundation. The Board seeks your support for this initiative. You never know, you may just walk away with a big cash prize.

The full terms and conditions together with some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are on display at the Club and can be accessed on the Club’s website under the Foundation tab.

Tickets can be purchased from today through to the start of the Masters. We have a table available where you can place an order for tickets through your member’s account. The tickets can be collected from the Golf Shop later today or when you are next passing through. You can also email Geoff Kuehner at any time to set aside tickets for you using your member account or other payment methods at the Club. Once the available tickets are sold there can’t be any more issued.

If you have any questions on the Event, please ask any member of the Calcutta Committee, Stephen Deane, Joe Janison or me or staff members at the Golf Shop.

Thankyou.
