Volunteer’s Report
On Monday, 28 April some volunteers and course staff attacked the low hanging branches in the rough on the left and right sides of the 10th fairway. Many balls stray into these areas and can be difficult to find let alone play out of. Precious time is wasted.
As well it allows course machinery an easier and safer ability to access for mowing and maintenance, particularly closer to the base of the trees. These areas will become more attractive as well as enhancing the general vista of the course. We managed to fill 10 very large trailer loads of limbs and trees today in a couple of hours.
Many players will have noticed a similar exercise is progressing on the 5th hole between the cart path and the OOB fence. Valerie Webb and Catherine Pitt have undertaken this task with great patience and expertise alongside the course staff. The positive of this exercise is as stated earlier but the difference here is now being able to redefine this area from a penalty area back to the general area of the course, as it used to be before becoming almost inaccessible.
There are many such areas around the course and the volunteers are very keen to assist Marcus Hartup and his staff in tidying all these areas. The intention is to establish a regular monthly exercise on Monday mornings from 7am – 9am, followed by a coffee/cake break. If you wish to join the volunteers, please simply forward me an email and you will be added to the list. Many hands make light work, and the tasks can be as simple as picking up a branch and placing into a trailer.
Many thanks to the volunteers today, being John Puttick, Phil Jefferson, Mal Cramb. Rob Keers, Al Haydock, Rob Brown supported ably by staff Marcus, Alex and Mark with chainsaws and a big tractor trailer.
Cheers
