BGC Claims Fourth Straight BDGA Division 1 Pennant

The Brisbane Golf Club capped off an outstanding 2025 season with a victory over Pacific Golf Club in Round 6 of the BDGA Division 1 Pennant yesterday, securing the Club’s fourth consecutive Division 1 title and sixth in the past seven seasons played.

In a high stakes clash between the top two teams on the ladder, BGC delivered a strong performance at home, winning 17-4 overall. With the Division 1 pennant on the line, the Opens led the charge with a season best 10-1 victory, backed by strong showings from the Masters 4-1 and Juniors 3-2. This win not only sealed the 2025 title but also underlined the Club’s remarkable consistency at the top level of Brisbane District golf, continuing a legacy built since 2017 when BGC entered Division 1.

The Opens team saved their best for last, dominating Pacific in front of their home supporters. Notable winners included Lachlan Jones 7 and 5, George Giblett 6 and 5, and Kai Komulainen 5 and 3, with several players finishing their amateur careers on a high before turning professional or beginning PGA traineeships. BGC’s Opens team finished the season with 39 points, topping the competition ahead of nearest rival Royal Queensland with 35.5. Their final three rounds at home yielded 24 of a possible 33 points which is testament to their depth and strength.

After a tough start in Round 1, where they lost 5-0 to Indooroopilly, the Masters rebounded impressively throughout the season. Their 4-1 win in Round 6 was highlighted by Ian Burgess’ dominant 7 and 6 win and strong performances from Ash Sturmer, Eugene Estella, and Stephen Deane.

The Juniors were a true highlight of the 2025 season, both on and off the course. Recording five wins from six matches, they consistently showed talent well beyond their years. Against Pacific, Tony Cho 3 and 2, Eshan Singh 5 and 4 and 14-year old Aahan Anand 3 and 2 delivered key wins.

Aahan completed an undefeated debut season after joining the Club at just 7 years old. He represents the kind of long term player development that is being nurtured through BGC’s thriving junior program. Another standout was 15-year old Dan Brown, who joined the Club at 10 and also featured in three matches this season.

Next year will mark BGC’s tenth consecutive season in Division 1, the longest active run in the competition. With Indooroopilly Golf Club being relegated to Division 2 after finishing fourth this year, RQ have the second longest active run at 3 years while Pacific Golf Club have been in Division 1 for one year. Keperra Country Golf Club will be promoted to Division 1 in 2026.

The Club’s 2025 season concluded with four wins and two losses from six rounds. The team secured a total of 72.5 points, the most of any team, while conceding only 53.5, the fewest across the competition. The next best was 62 points won and 64 conceded.

Among this year’s squad were four current Club Champions including Lachlan Jones, George Giblett, Taj Egea, and Campbell Kerr, three Junior Club Champions in Campbell Kerr, Elijah Rohas-Smith, and Chase Oberle and two Senior Club Champions, Ian Burgess and Stephen Deane.

The team’s success over recent year is attributed to David Raman, who oversees both the Pennant Program and our Elite Player Development. David has created a high-performance culture at BGC and put in systems to ensure our players have wonderful support on and off the course.

At the end of any season there are a number of people to thank. None of the Club’s success would be possible without the support of our players. We are deeply appreciative of the time and dedication of each player and of the commitment they make to the team. In total 28 players represented BGC this season.

The Board and Members of The Brisbane Golf Club also deserve special mention for their unwavering support of our Pennant program and for their assistance behind the scenes as do rules officials Jodie Holmes and Joe Janison. Team selectors David Raman, Joe Janison and Tom Deane work tirelessly each week and have the difficult task of selecting 21 players each week from a talented squad. Executive Chef Gillian Hirst and Front of House Manager Kassie Tang, along with their teams, provided outstanding hospitality throughout the season. Big thanks also go to Geoff Crozier, who developed live scoring app that kept members informed and engaged during each home match. Congratulations also to Men’s Captain, Dean Castrisos who after representing BGC as a player for several years, has won his first Division 1 pennant as Men’s Captain.
