Holes 11, 12 & 13 Re-Open on Monday as GRP Progresses
I am pleased to advise that holes 11,12 and 13 will re-open for general play, as planned on Monday, 8 September.
The decision to re-surface these greens during Winter was made to speed up the overall green resurfacing program (GRP). While these greens will open on Monday, we would have liked another two to three weeks of grow in, but it was important to have the contractor start Stage 3 of the GRP on time. The three greens will open in a playable state and will continue to improve each day as the weather continues to warm up.
The decision a couple of weeks back to temporarily over sow them with Poa proved prudent with the Poa assisting with the overall playability of the green surface while the Tiff Eagle grass strain completed its coverage. You will see the Poa be eradicated over the next 3-4 weeks, as the green surface coverage expands to optimal levels.
While these holes have been out of play, Marcus Hartup and his team have worked on the bunkers on these holes. Each bunker has its drainage fixed, new bunker matting installed as well as new sand. Some of the bunkers have also been made shallower. One change is the bunker at the rear of the 12th green which has been taken out, and replaced with grass. The drainage on this particular bunker was beyond repair and the decision was made to remove it from play.
Tees have also been extended and levelled on Hole 11 and 13.
Our contractors will be on site from Monday, 8 September and will commence the larger replacement program of all remaining greens. They will start on holes 2, 7 and 8 and the West Practice Green and will progress from there. I will keep you updated with regular progress reports along the way.
