Welcome to the April edition of the News from the Red Tees, and as the weather starts to cool down, the golfing competition is heating up! The Joan Fletcher Trophy and Cherry Cribb Cup events have been completed with the Johnson Staines Fourball underway. \u00a0Off the course, we’ve enjoyed lunches to celebrate Irish Day, the Cherry Cribb and Joan Fletcher events.\u00a0 Plenty of action ahead with Anzac Day, Winter Cup, Violet Midson, Saturday Guest Day and, of course, preparation for our pennant competitions.\u00a0 But first, another lockdown to get through.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ladies President’s Note<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

With our 125 years anniversary this year, we have a great opportunity to reflect on where the ladies at Brisbane golf club have been. \u00a0Our reflection segments at our monthly medal lunches have proven to be very entertaining, and we have many more to come. \u00a0Thank you to all who have contributed to date.<\/p>\n

To contrast, are the segments on the computerised method of scoring and the BGC phone app. The ability to now instantly see our ladies notifications and latest news\u00a0is excellent and helps to keep us all in touch in our varying busy worlds. \u00a0We are all learning more on the extra features that these technologies can offer us, and hopefully will have a presentation by an expert in the near future. Please\u00a0think about extra features that\u00a0you may want from these apps, and we can explore these possibilities.<\/p>\n

We are seeing many social initiatives, driven again by our ladies. The members bar is filling up each Thursday afternoon with our social groups playing Mahjong and Bridge, and our senior ladies golf group trials are starting out with lots of enthusiasm and participation.<\/p>\n

What will our future look like in the next 5-25 years? \u00a0What exciting times do we have ahead, and what can the ladies do to help lead these? \u00a0Something to ponder for the next month.<\/p>\n

Tennyson Room and Special Event Day Lunches and Shotgun Starts<\/b><\/span><\/h5>\n

The new format being trialled for making use of the Tennyson Room to host lunch on Special Event Days, including honour board events, monthly medals and shotgun starts has been well received.\u00a0 We will continue with this format for the time being and keep you updated with any changes.\u00a0 This month we will trial holding announcements at 1pm.<\/p>\n

New Irrigation System<\/b><\/span><\/h5>\n

Our irrigation works have continued through the month but have been impacted by the wet weather. At this stage it was hoped to have started work on Hole 6 but as yet Hole 4 and Hole 5 haven\u2019t been completed. It has been decided on wet days not to allow the contractors machinery on the golf course to limit damage. Moving forward the club management will continue to balance the need to complete the project on time with what is best for the golf course and ensuring the project is completed to a high standard.<\/p>\n

Weekly updates on our irrigation are published and distributed via the Golf Shop. Please don\u2019t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.<\/p>\n

    Winter Cup<\/b><\/span><\/h5>\n

    The Winter Cup starts this month and it\u2019s not too late to enter with the nomination sheet in the ladies locker room.\u00a0Details of competition: Best 3 of 6 rounds \/ Played on Thursday 8 April \/ Thursday 13 May \/ Thursday 17 June \/ Thursday 8 July \/ Thursday 26 August \/ Thursday 23 September.\u00a0 All entry fees will be used as a cash prize to the winners being apportioned as follows: Winner 50% \/ Second 25% \/ Third 15% \/ Fourth 10%.\u00a0 Entry fee is $5.<\/p>\n

    Ladies Senior Golf Competition Trial<\/b><\/span><\/h5>\n

    We are excited to be playing our inaugural Senior Ladies Competition on Friday 16 April. \u00a0The competition is for our senior ladies aged 60 plus to enjoy a 4BBB contest followed by lunch and presentations afterwards. \u00a0The Match Committee have agreed to trial three competitions with a maximum 40 players in each trial to gauge support. Potential dates for the other two trial competitions are to be confirmed. \u00a0Details of the competition are: Age 60 plus \/ 4BBB \/ Friday Competition \/ Cost $10 each \/ Mini shot gun start \/ Tee times 8.00 and 8.08 am.\u00a0 The booking sheet is manual and will be available outside the office from 7am four weeks prior to competition date. Due to the timing frame for this trial the booking sheet opened on 25 March.\u00a0 If you are not already on the Senior Ladies email list or would like further information, please contact Liz McReynolds liz.mcreynolds57@gmail.com<\/a> <\/strong>or phone 0409 995 728. \u00a0We are hopeful with your continued support this competition will become a permanent fixture in our golfing calendar. \u00a0Seniors, this one\u2019s just for you, so come along and join in what will be a fun and enjoyable golfing experience.<\/p>\n

    Hole-in-One Club<\/strong><\/h5>\n

    If you haven’t joined the Hole-in-One Club because you think, “It’ll never happen” … think again, one drops nearly every month!<\/p>\n

    Making a Hole-In-One is a great achievement for any golfer and at The Brisbane Golf Club if you record your Hole-In-One during a competition your \u2018ace\u2019 will be honoured with inclusion on the Hole-In-One Register. Ladies receive a trophy with the details of their Hole-In-One.<\/p>\n

    Members will also receive a reward of $300 for a Hole-In-One if made while playing in an official competition at a registered club in Australia.<\/p>\n

    The Brisbane Golf Club has started\u00a0a Hole-In-One Club. Membership will cost each member just $1 each time a Hole-In-One is recorded in a competition and means that if you achieve a Hole-In-One every member of the Hole-in-One Club will pay you $1. If we have 100 Members in the Hole-in-One Club then an \u2018ace\u2019 will earn you $99. To join, simply send an email with your name and membership number to geoff@brisbanegolfclub.com.au<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Ladies,<\/p>\n

    The 54 hole event starting on May 4th is a 3 round stroke event played every second year.\u00a0 Gross and Nett prizes in 3 divisions and all players must\u00a0play\u00a0stroke.\u00a0 Please note that both Tuesday rounds include counting your putts and all three rounds will now go towards your eclectic rounds for the year, as will any stroke round for the year.\u00a0 No Miscore app please use score cards only.<\/p>\n

    Please see the notice Board for the flyer on the Tanner Cup played alongside the Monthly Medal on Tuesday 25th May.<\/p>\n

    Don’t forget the Violet Midson starts on 13th April and goes to 27th April and if you want to qualify you must be available for all rounds.<\/p>\n

    The Monthly Medal for March and Grandmother\u2019s Day will be rescheduled.<\/p>\n

    Pennants<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Junior Pennants for 2021 – Aspen Sugars represented BGC in a composite team with McLeod and made us proud. Congratulations Aspen for a great season.<\/p>\n

    Our Senior Pennant Season starts on Friday 14th May and Sunday 16th May.\u00a0 \u00a0We will be hosting Weekend Pennants on Sunday16th May and Friday Pennants on 11th June. If you would like to help on either of those two dates, please contact myself or Janet Nathanson, Kate Morgan or Yvonne Butcher.\u00a0 These are two huge dates in our golfing calendar\u00a0and we would appreciate all the help we can get.\u00a0 Our Pennant teams for this year are finalised and we are looking forward to a great season, if you wish to caddie and you haven’t put your hand up let us know and I can pass your name onto the players.<\/p>\n
