The Joan Fletcher Trophy and Cherry Cribb Cup events have been completed with the Johnson Staines Fourball underway. \u00a0Off the course, we&#8217;ve enjoyed lunches to celebrate Irish Day, the Cherry Cribb and Joan Fletcher events.\u00a0 Plenty of action ahead with Anzac Day, Winter Cup, Violet Midson, Saturday Guest Day and, of course, preparation for our pennant competitions.\u00a0 But first, another lockdown to get through.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>[ct_spacer height=&#8221;25&#8243;]<\/h2>\n<p><a name=\"start\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>[gdlr_divider type=&#8221;solid&#8221; size=&#8221;50%&#8221; ]<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #c7233b;\"><strong>Ladies President&#8217;s Note<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With our 125 years anniversary this year, we have a great opportunity to reflect on where the ladies at Brisbane golf club have been. \u00a0Our reflection segments at our monthly medal lunches have proven to be very entertaining, and we have many more to come. \u00a0Thank you to all who have contributed to date.<\/p>\n<p>To contrast, are the segments on the computerised method of scoring and the BGC phone app. The ability to now instantly see our ladies notifications and latest news\u00a0is excellent and helps to keep us all in touch in our varying busy worlds. \u00a0We are all learning more on the extra features that these technologies can offer us, and hopefully will have a presentation by an expert in the near future. Please\u00a0think about extra features that\u00a0you may want from these apps, and we can explore these possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>We are seeing many social initiatives, driven again by our ladies. At this stage it was hoped to have started work on Hole 6 but as yet Hole 4 and Hole 5 haven\u2019t been completed. It has been decided on wet days not to allow the contractors machinery on the golf course to limit damage. Moving forward the club management will continue to balance the need to complete the project on time with what is best for the golf course and ensuring the project is completed to a high standard.<\/p>\n<p>Weekly updates on our irrigation are published and distributed via the Golf Shop. Potential dates for the other two trial competitions are to be confirmed. \u00a0Details of the competition are: Age 60 plus \/ 4BBB \/ Friday Competition \/ Cost $10 each \/ Mini shot gun start \/ Tee times 8.00 and 8.08 am.\u00a0 The booking sheet is manual and will be available outside the office from 7am four weeks prior to competition date. Ladies receive a trophy with the details of their Hole-In-One.<\/p>\n<p>Members will also receive a reward of $300 for a Hole-In-One if made while playing in an official competition at a registered club in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The Brisbane Golf Club has started\u00a0a Hole-In-One Club. Membership will cost each member just $1 each time a Hole-In-One is recorded in a competition and means that if you achieve a Hole-In-One every member of the Hole-in-One Club will pay you $1. If we have 100 Members in the Hole-in-One Club then an \u2018ace\u2019 will earn you $99. Congratulations Aspen for a great season.<\/p>\n<p>Our Senior Pennant Season starts on Friday 14th May and Sunday 16th May.\u00a0 \u00a0We will be hosting Weekend Pennants on Sunday16th May and Friday Pennants on 11th June. Pachinko did this for me.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in Yeongdo, Korea in 1911 it tells the story of one girl and her family. Starting with her parents and ending with her grandchildren, it takes you through their journey from Korea to Japan. Their trials and hardships, life and losses are heartbreaking.\u00a0 The cultural intricacies of Korea and, then between Koreans living in Japan, all during a time of war, famine and prejudice is eye opening.\u00a0 The family\u2019s determination to firstly survive and ultimately create a better life for their children is nearly impossible to imagine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>[ct_spacer height=&#8221;25&#8243;]<\/h4>\n<p>[gdlr_divider type=&#8221;solid&#8221; size=&#8221;50%&#8221; ]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #c7233b;\"><strong>MEMBERS INTERVIEW MEMBERS\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brisbanegolfclub.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/BGC-The-Red-Tees-April-2021-Anne-Clifton-Jodi-Holmes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20522 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brisbanegolfclub.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/BGC-The-Red-Tees-April-2021-Anne-Clifton-Jodi-Holmes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"412\" \/><\/a><strong>Anne Clifton interviews Jodi Holmes<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne: <em>When did you learn to play golf?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jodi: <\/strong>It depends on who you ask\u2026<\/p>\n<p>My high school teacher at BSHS will say it was my hockey background that carried me during our PE lessons that took place at Brisbane Golf Club (BGC).<\/p>\n<p>Murray Lott will tell you, \u201cI taught her everything she knows\u201d. \u00a0My first actual lesson was in 2015 at BGC with Murray.<\/p>\n<p>My Mother would bring home the water balls for me to practice. \u00a0I had to hit them over the park and into the river, \u201cJust swing, don\u2019t try to hit it hard\u201d (if I didn\u2019t get them into the water, I had to find them and try again). \u00a0I was occasionally allowed to play the BGC West Course with Mum, where \u201cunder no circumstance are you to hit your wayward shots from the members fairway!\u201d\u00a0 My Aunt, Daphne has spent hours lecturing me on mindset, etiquette &amp; preparation \u2013 the only advice I haven\u2019t followed is, \u201cJodi if you really want to be a good golfer you need to practice until your hands bleed\u201d Aunt Daphne is\u00a0serious about her golf!\u00a0 I would say it was a combined effort between my mother and my aunt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne: <em>Did you play many comps as a junior?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jodi: <\/strong>Just one in 1988 in an extended family competition at Beerwah where everyone was given a handicap based on their age.\u00a0 I won but, still to this day the other uncle who came second thinks he was robbed as I beat him by one stroke with a nett 63 however, I was given a handicap of 59 and his was only 12!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne: <em>When did you start playing regularly?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jodi: <\/strong>In 2013 when our three children were all in school, I was working part time when finally I had a spare few hours one day a week to play a 9 hole social comp at St Lucia GC in a ladies group.\u00a0 It was a bit lonely not knowing anyone, but I was determined to take up golf and obtain a handicap.\u00a0 At the time I was also playing tennis one night a week with a group of school mums including Anne Clifton.\u00a0 Anne had such an amazing serve and it didn\u2019t take long for me to convince her to come along to St Lucia with me.\u00a0 We managed to squeeze in about 15-20 games a year for 2-3 years and motivate each other to continue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne: <em>When did you join Brisbane <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>and why?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jodi: <\/strong>Ever since my high school lessons at BGC and my rounds around the West Course I had wanted to become a member.\u00a0 My mother was a member and she loved it, she used to love being picked up by Jill McTaggart in her stylish MG convertible with their clubs sticking up in the back.\u00a0 I used to think that was sooo sophisticated and hoped I could do the same one day. Here is a drill to test it out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tempo v Swing Length:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Find your tempo by making continuous swings of the same length (halfway). As a reference, halfway will be club parallel to the ground on either side but whatever is comfortable for you.<\/li>\n<li>Hit 5 balls with your tempo and halfway swing length. Measure the balls to where they first bounce only measuring the shots you felt were good. This is your carry distance for this swing.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat this doing a \u00be swing. As a reference, 10 o\u2019clock to 2 o\u2019clock on a lock face. Now you will have 2 distances and 2 swings with 1 club.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat this with all of your wedges.
