Time seems to just slip by so very quickly.<\/p>\n<p>We are now into the Pennant Season, and wish all the pennant players and caddies, an enjoyable season, playing on different courses in many parts of Brisbane, some places more out of the way than others.<\/p>\n<p>Last Sunday, we hosted the Weekend Silver Diamond pennant division at BGC. (Brisbane was not playing). Fortunately, the weather was not too wet, allowing the players to enjoy their time at Brisbane. Thank you to those members who volunteered as guides and course marshals assisting in keeping the field moving, whilst getting to watch some pretty impressive golf as well.<\/p>\n<p>Brisbane has two more Pennant Rounds to host, Friday Yellow Diamond team on the morning of Friday, 17 May and Sapphire Zone 3 on the morning of Friday, 24 May. Brisbane will be playing on both days. The days will start at 6:45am and finish around 11:30pm. To have a successful day we will need about 9 volunteers placed around the course to help keep the field moving, assisting in directing players, and hopefully getting to watch some good golf. If you think you can help, please could you let me know either via phone call\/text on 0419 025 207 or email \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/jnathanson56@gmail.com\/\">jnathanson56@gmail.com<\/a>. Your assistance will be much appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>It appears the \u201cYellow Tee Challenge\u201d last Tuesday created a number of challenges on the day, more than the golf itself! There was no added signage in the Pro-shop on the day to remind players to play from the yellow tees, which was probably an oversight. However, there were several hints on starting your round that should have set some alarm bells ringing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Handicaps that were higher than normal<\/li>\n<li>Yellow tee numbering on the Mi-Score app<\/li>\n<li>Cards, with Tee: Yellow being indicated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once on the course, and playing your round, it took some concentration and help from your fellow playing partners to remain on the correct tee \u2013 no doubt there were a few who strayed back to the red tees \u2013 \u201ca 2 shot penalty\u201d (See Rule 6.1b(2)) and the need to tee again, this time playing from the correct tee &#8211;\u00a0 ie playing 3, as your initial shot off the wrong tee did not count.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A few important dates to diarise:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 30 April<\/strong> \u2013 Grace Wilson Memorial Day \u2013 4BBB.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 14 May<\/strong> \u2013 Single Stableford with the \u201cThe 39th, 20th Anniversary Cup\u201d, members who joined Brisbane Golf Club on or before 2004, and have held continuous membership since then will be eligible to win the trophy!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, 17 May<\/strong> \u2013 Pennant Hosting for Yellow Diamond<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, 23 May<\/strong> \u2013 Winter Cup Round 2, as the original Round 2 in March, was cancelled due to rain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, 24 May<\/strong> \u2013 Pennant Hosting for Sapphire Zone 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 28 May<\/strong> \u2013 Grandmother\u2019s Day, and FOB Cup.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shotgun start at 7:30am.<\/li>\n<li>FOB is a team event, played between the Young and the Old, or the Wise and the Sprightly.<\/li>\n<li>Actual age split will be determined nearer the day, but could be around 65 depending on who signs up to play.<\/li>\n<li>The best 12 scored from each team will be aggregated to determine the winner.<\/li>\n<li>At the same time the highest scoring \u201cGrandmother\u201d\u00a0 will be gifted a lovely prize donated by Jenny Johnson.<\/li>\n<li>This wonderful morning of golf, will be followed by lunch in the Tennyson Room \u2013 time for a catch up, and a few \u201cgranny\u201d stories!!<\/li>\n<li>Lunch will simply be from the bar menu, or Garden Room.<\/li>\n<li>Hope to see you all there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other important dates to diarise:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 30 July<\/strong> &#8211; IGC invitation Day at IGC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 27 August<\/strong> &#8211; Guest Day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 22 October<\/strong> &#8211; RQ Invitation Day at BGC.<\/p>\n<p><em>Remember all important dates for Honour Board events, and other events, can be found on the front page of the Club Website.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Highlighting Bunkers and Rules that apply when playing from them<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. See R&amp;A Rule 12 about bunkers, and what you can and can\u2019t do in a bunker!<\/p>\n<p>Rules that apply to abnormal course conditions in a bunker (rule 16.1c) and an unplayable ball in a bunker (Rule 19.3) will be mentioned briefly below.<\/p>\n<p>2. If a bunker has been designated a \u201cNo Play Zone\u201d or \u201cGUR\u201d \u2013 it will fall under the category of \u201can abnormal course condition \u2013 Rule 16.1 &#8211; you may drop your ball outside the bunker, using the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole. Remember it is the nearest point of relief, not necessarily the most favourable spot!<\/p>\n<p>3. If the bunker is in play, but is found to have an \u201cabnormal course condition,\u201d such as a pool of water, or exposed matting, and your ball is impacted upon by this condition, you can drop your ball at the nearest point of relief no nearer the hole WITHIN the bunker. See Rule 16.1c.<\/p>\n<p>4. If you believe your ball in a bunker is unplayable, because you are right up against the face or in a very deep footprint, for a one-shot penalty applying Rule 19.2, you can take relief in the bunker, no closer to the hole, dropping within 2 club lengths of your ball.<\/p>\n<p>5. Finally, if you really do not wish to attempt a shot from the bunker, applying Rule 19.3, and taking a two-shot penalty, you can drop your ball outside the bunker, taking back-along-the-line relief.<\/p>\n<p>Please refer to the R&amp;A app for further information.<\/p>\n<p>With a final thought from Gardner Dickinson <em>\u201cThey say golf is like life, but don\u2019t believe them.
