On Monday morning, 26 May, a determined group of 14 volunteers and 3 course staff continued the removal of low hanging branches in the left rough adjacent to the 10th fairway, and essentially completed the task all the way to the last spreading tree before the 10th<\/sup>green.<\/p>\n

There was also a concerted effort to remove poor quality shrubs and weed trees, as well as standing and collapsed dead trees in the same area.\u00a0 In all we managed to fill about a dozen very large trailer loads and the smaller truck with limbs and trees in two hours.<\/p>\n

This area now looks much tidier, more open, and attractive and it now possible to see from the 10th<\/sup> fairway across the course to Toohey Forest Hill.\u00a0 Golfers will now find it much easier to find that occasional stray ball during a round of golf and make some recovery shot possible.\u00a0 It was amazing how many balls were found during this cleanup.<\/p>\n

Another volunteer session is planned between the 10th<\/sup> and 19th<\/sup> fairways to open more vistas toward the first and nineteenth greens and the 18th<\/sup> tee.<\/p>\n

Again, I would like to say that the BGC volunteer group is very keen to continue to assist Marcus Hartup and his staff in tidying many such areas around the course.\u00a0 The intention is to establish a regular monthly program on Monday mornings from 7am \u2013 9am, followed by a coffee\/cake break. \u00a0If you wish to join the volunteers and lend a helping hand, I encourage you to do so, and I am sure you will enjoy the camaraderie. \u00a0As I have said before, many hands make light work, and the tasks can be as simple as picking up a branch and placing into a trailer. \u00a0Please forward me an email and you will be added to the list.<\/p>\n

Many thanks to the 14 volunteers who worked so hard on Monday – John Puttick, Robyn Wanless, Greg Moroney, Pip Holmes, Janet Nathanson, Les Nathanson, Phil Jefferson, Ian Marshall, John Rogers, Rob Keers, Al Haydock, Rob Brown, Leigh Francis.\u00a0 They were ably supported again by staff Marcus, Alex and Mark with chainsaws, a big tractor and trailer and a second truck.<\/p>\n
