The Brisbane Golf Club opened their 2025 BDGA Division 1 Pennant campaign on Sunday with a hard-fought match against Indooroopilly Golf Club. Despite strong performances in the Open and Junior divisions, BGC went down 12.5\u20138.5 overall, with Indooroopilly\u2019s strength at home, particularly in the Masters, \u00a0proving the difference.<\/p>\n

Despite the overall result, there were encouraging performances across all divisions. The\u00a0Open team\u00a0produced a solid away performance to\u00a0draw 5.5\u20135.5, continuing their impressive form after going undefeated through the 2024 season. 2025 Club Champion\u00a0Lachlan Jones\u00a0led the charge with a narrow 1up win, supported by victories from\u00a0George Giblett, Taj Egea, Ben Stieler, and\u00a0Ilija Soldan.\u00a0Josh Liston\u00a0fought hard to square his match and help the team secure a valuable away draw.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0highlight of the day came from the Juniors\u00a0who showed significant improvement, turning around last year\u2019s 5\u20130 loss to Indooroopilly with a\u00a03\u20132 win. It was a standout effort considering Indooroopilly were last season\u2019s Junior Division 1 champions. Wins came from\u00a0Dan Brown\u00a0(1up),\u00a0Darwin Butsamalee\u00a0(4&3), and\u00a0Thomas King\u00a0(5&4).<\/p>\n

The home side\u2019s dominance in the\u00a0Masters division\u00a0proved decisive. Indooroopilly swept all five points, capitalising on a strong and experienced lineup. Both\u00a0Stephen Deane\u00a0and\u00a0Peter Hargreaves\u00a0held leads through much of the morning but were narrowly defeated on the 18th in closely contested matches.<\/p>\n

Three players made their\u00a0Pennant debuts\u00a0for Brisbane Golf Club in the opening round:\u00a0Shane Sweeney\u00a0(Opens),\u00a0Peter Hargreaves\u00a0(Masters), and\u00a0Darwin Butsamalee\u00a0(Juniors.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to\u00a0Round 2, BGC faces a tough away fixture against\u00a0Royal Queensland Golf Club, who began their season with an 11.5\u20139.5 win over Pacific Golf Club. The strong showings by both teams signals that this year\u2019s competition will be tightly contested from start to finish. Pacific were playing in Division 1 for the first time since 2022.<\/p>\n

In other Round 2 action,\u00a0Pacific Golf Club will host Indooroopilly Golf Club, with both sides eager to build early momentum.<\/p>\n

Brisbane members are encouraged to\u00a0show their support\u00a0for our team this weekend at Royal Queensland. The match will tee off at\u00a07am from both tees.<\/p>\n
