History of the Event<\/strong><\/p>\n

Began in 2000 instigated by member and trophy donor Greg Mellifont. Specifically aimed at 6 day members to participate in a significant event of Matchplay format. Intended to acknowledge the older long time members of the BGC by inviting one of them to present the trophy.<\/p>\n

Famous English author PG Wodehouse, an avid golfer, wrote many golf stories one of which invented a golfing character called the “Oldest Member”. Engraved on the trophy donated by Greg is a PG Wodehouse quote “Golf is the Great Mystery”.<\/p>\n
