Note from the President – Course Flooding

Members will now be aware that Brisbane is again experiencing a major flooding event, after several days of record-breaking rain. The Brisbane River and local creeks are all continuing to rise this morning and there is some uncertainty as to the timing and ultimate peak of the flood.

In these distressing circumstances I hope that all our Members and families remain safe and well. It is recommended at present that Brisbane Residents stay at home if possible as many roads are cut or flooded. Therefore, over the next few days the priority should be to care for each other within families, and neighbourhoods.

In respect of The Brisbane Golf Course, we have had very significant flooding throughout the course and currently most of the layout is under water. Our management team have worked throughout the weekend ensuring that all has been done to protect course equipment and constantly reassessing the extent of the flooding.

Clearly there will need to be a major clean-up process in the days and weeks to come. This is currently being planned and once we know when the peak of the flood will occur, a detailed program of this process will begin. I am sure Members and Volunteers of the Club will be invited to assist the team at some stage, and I will keep you informed of this process. At this stage it is best for members to stay safe at home and await further advice from the Club.

All social golf, fixtures and matches are now on indefinite hold at the Club and information regarding new dates and formats will be relayed later. The course and club are currently closed to all Members.

Again, I wish to re-emphasise that my thoughts are with all Members of our golf community at these uncertain times. Please stay away from flood waters and seek assistance if required.

I will keep Members informed during the week of further Golf Club information as it occurs.

In the meantime if you have any questions please don’t hestitate to contact our CEO, Geoff Kuehner via geoff@brisbanegolfclub.com.au.

Kind regards

Mark Deuble, President
