Team Announcement: Round 3 Pennants

The Brisbane Golf Club has recorded wins in the first two rounds of its Division 1 pennant’s season and as a result will take some strong form into its first away match against Pacific Golf Club on Sunday, 31 July.

Wins against Keperra Country Golf Club 13-8 and Redcliffe Golf Club 12.5-7.5 have BGC at the top of the table after just two rounds.

Pacific Golf Club are the most recent team promoted to Division 1 after winning Division 2 in 2019 and the Club has a rich and long history at the elite level of interclub golf. They played Redcliffe in the first game away and were defeated 13-8 and in Round 2 they lost by the same margin to Keperra, also away. They will be eager to bounce back at home against BGC.

Round 3 will see Sam Slater play his first game in this campaign. Sam played in the 74th Singapore Open Amateur Championship and was unavailable for selection until now. He finished an impressive T4 in that event. Billy Dowling will be missed due to other tournament commitments but we will also welcome back Sam Howse and Conor Whitelock who played in the Portsea Open Amateur last weekend. Ben Stieler will also return

Our Open’s team is Dylan Barraclough, Cooper Clarke, Sam Howse, Craig Mahon, Sam Slater, John Smoljko, Ilija Soldan, Chris Somerfield, Ben Stieler, Paul Todd and Conor Whitelock.

The Juniors are undefeated in their first two matches and have secured a valuable 7 out of a possible 10 points in the first two rounds. Like Sam Slater, Campbell Kerr will play his first match of the season due to international golfing commitments. He will replace Eric Yeon this week who will be greatly missed. Eric is undefeated so far but will play in a Greg Norman junior event on the Gold Coast instead.

Our Junior team is Demos Drakos, Campbell Kerr, Justin McCormack, Chase Oberle and Harvey Palmer.

There is one change to our Masters team as well with Eugene Estella unavailable. He will be replaced by Phil Melksham who has been a valuable contributor to our Master’s and Open’s teams over many years.

Our Masters team is Ian Burgess, Stephen Deane, Phil Lynem, Phil Melksham and Ash Sturmer.

In the other match this Sunday, Redcliffe Golf Club will play Keperra Country Golf Club at home. Both of these teams have recorded one win over the first two rounds.

We once again encourage as many Members as possible to come out and catch the live action from 7am off both tees.

Live score updates will be available via our Facebook page.
