Team Announcement: Round 6 Pennants

The Brisbane Golf Club will play Keperra Country Golf Club in this week’s final round of the Division 1 pennants.

While BGC wrapped up the flag for 2022 last weekend with a draw away against Redcliffe Golf Club there is still plenty to play for. The team will be looking to match the efforts of the 2018 team who remained undefeated. There is also the challenge of competing against one of most successful Division 1 clubs in the history of BDGA pennants. Keperra have been in Division 1 for the longest out of any of the current teams and at home will again be very strong.

With COVID-19 cancelling pennants in 2020 and 2021, BCG’s win this year has seen BGC win three of the four most recently completed seasons. The win will see BGC remain in Division 1 for a seventh consecutive year in 2023.

A home win for Keperra will secure them second place on the ladder and a lost, with a win for Redcliffe Golf Club would push them back to third.

Our Opens, like the BGC team, are undefeated this year and have also wrapped up the flag for their grade. There will take a strong team to Keperra with only Billy Dowling and Chris Somerfield not available for selection. The team will welcome back John Smojiko who missed last week and Wade Edwards who has recovered from a back injury. Interestingly, John Smojiko and Connor Whitelock are both unbeaten this season.

Our Open’s team is Cooper Clarke, Wade Edwards, Sam Howse, Luke Kjeldal, Craig Mahon, Sam Slater, John Smoljko, Ilija Soldan, Ben Stieler, Paul Todd and Conor Whitelock.

Our Juniors sit on top of the table after 5 rounds with Keperra and this weekend’s winner will also win the flag for this grade. These matches are certain to be of the highest quality once again. BGC won 4-1 in round 2 at home. The team welcomes back Demo Drakas who will replace Eric Yeon. Harvey Palmer has scored 4.5 out of a possible 5 points so far this year and will be looking to finish his season undefeated.

Our Junior team is Demo Drakas, Campbell Kerr, Justin McCormack, Chase Oberle and Harvey Palmer.

The Keperra Masters have won the flag in their grade and the final round will give the BGC Masters a chance to test themselves against the best. This is a challenge our Masters will be looking forward to.

Our Masters team is Ian Burgess, Stephen Deane, Eugene Estella, Phil Lynem and Ash Sturmer.

In the other match this Sunday, Pacific Golf Club will host Redcliffe Golf Club at home. Pacific will be looking for their first win of the season while an away win for Redcliffe will end their season on a positive note.

We once again encourage as many Members as possible to come out and catch the live action from 7am. Players will be hitting off the 10th and 19th tees at Keperra Country Golf Club.

Live score updates will be available via our Facebook page.
