QSOOM November Results – December Preview

It’s been an active month on the QSOOM front … as well as the AUSSOOM NSW and ACT Champs.

We’ll start with the AUSSOOM NSW Seniors … as we didn’t have any participants in the ACT Champs.

NSW Senior AUSSOOM.

Stephen Deane posts a T6 at Forster Tuncurry!  Steve went into the last round with a 2 shot lead after posting 2 great rounds of 74 and 70 to be at even par. Unfortunately, the tight Tuncurry course took its toll in the third round, but we look forward to following more results. His game is certainly well respected by the guns on that particular tour.

This has Steve at 13th on the AUSSOOM list after 2 events of the new year.

From all reports, the ACT Senior was a bitterly cold affair. This photo was taken at Belconnen Golf Club – 14k away from the event of the day.

Anyway … we don’t get any of that rubbish on the QSOOM tour .. so we’ll push on.

Nov 7 – Virginia.  6 players from BGC.

Only a small field of 31 here for this event. Virginia was in surprisingly pretty good condition. It also marked the return of Steve Toyne of Indooroopilly from his sojourn to the British Isles. Steve is a regular winner on the QSOOM tour and a member of the Big 5.

The event was won by Lindsay Brown of Keperra with 74, followed by Toyne on 75. BGC results as follows.

Scratch.

Nett – Winner Ian Broom of Caloundra with 38 points. Marto with a late double proving costly.

Nov 10-11 NUDGEE MASTERS.  8 players from BGC. A rare 36 hole stroke event on the tour worth extra QSOOM points.

A couple of tough windy days on a pretty dry and new Nudgee Courses. Our own Craig James led the field with a great 2 over par after the first round but unfortunately couldn’t hold on.

Newcomer from Nudgee – David Beard won the event shooting a +2 total for 36 holes … streeting the field from Gary Heslop (Nudgee) and Brad Dowling (Southport), T2’s at +9.

Scratch. A nice return to a bit of form for The Ox.

Nett – Won by John Jayo at -5

14 November – Keperra. 7 Players from BGC.

Some very good scores around a Keperra course that seems to still be struggling from last years floods. Brett Ritchie of Nudgee shot -1, a shot in front of local Lindsay Brown.

Scratch – Another late fade out proves costly again for our writer … maybe I need a banana on the 14th tee …

Nett – Princey tops our list with a good result while none of us were able to have 36 points.

21 Nov – Sanctuary Cove Palms. 12 BGC Players.

Did anyone hear that ? Was it a shooting star hitting the ground or just a bubble bursting?

A tough day at the office with quick greens and swirling winds, the Palms was in great condition though.

Scratch – A good win to Teddy Cole from Nudgee (+1) , who played with Millsy and Chris Everett, from Brad Dowling and Steve Toyne. Nice work Clark Anderson to head our guys.

Nett – a very good T2 to Clark, behind the runaway winner in Teddy Cole with 42 points.

Martin Riley …. Call John Jayo … it looks like he’s missed your nett score.

QSOOM TABLES AT THE END OF NOVEMBER.

Scratch.

Nett.

DECEMBER EVENTS.

2nd December – McLeod. – Take note of it being a FRIDAY. At this stage a smaller event … more points on offer.

12th December – Coolangatta Tweed. Take note of the DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIMES. Might be a plan in the offing for those wishing to play this one … let us know if you’re going to this one. I suspect it will be played on the River course.

19th December – Brookwater. Take note that, while the other two events are smaller fields, this one seems to be filling fast.

2023 Calendar.

Keep your eyes peeled for a 2023 Calendar that I’ll send out when it’s ready … probably December some time. It will have the all of the events from all of the various State and Australian Seniors Tournaments. It’s a good reckoner if you’re travelling and looking for something to play in, but check the details before you go, as it tends to go out of date quickly …

That’s it for another month. Enjoy your golf and get keen.

Marto.
