The NVP Shootout is back and is bigger than ever!

It’s that time of year at The Brisbane Golf Club where there are Honour Board events aplenty going on, the days are getting shorter, the greens quicker, and to quote the great John Snow…Winter is coming! However, there is a bright side…the NVP Shootout is back and it is bigger than ever!

A quick refresher on this event for those new to us, or those that didn’t take much notice of it last year:

At the beginning of the day we start with 19 players all teeing off the first hole. It is a bit like herding cats down the fairway…they go everywhere and don’t listen to instruction. When the first hole is finished, the 2 worst nett scores have an early shower…or continue to follow and heckle/help. Every hole sees 2 players drop out so on the 9th and final hole you are left with 3 remaining on the tee. If we have a tie on any hole with more than 2 players, there is a putt off to decide who stays.

So, now that you are familiar with the concept, let’s be reminded that last year Brett Weick took home the chocolates…as well as $675 on his house account! That is a fairly good day out.

I promised that the 2023 version of the NVP Shootout would be bigger, and thanks to our Sponsor Peter Walker, the winner of this year’s event will walk away with $1,350…you heard correctly, $1,350…that is the maximum an amateur can win!!! Even though the prize money for the winner has increased, the cost of entry is still only $25. Brisbane Golf Club will also add to the prize pool but the more people that enter means a bigger prize pool, so that even the first losers will earn more than their entry fee.

Qualifying rounds will happen throughout the year with dates below and the Final will be played on Sunday December 3rd:

As with last year the rules are simple:

  • You may play in as many rounds as you able to a maximum of 7 rounds.
  • Your best 3 scores over those rounds will be aggregated to be your qualifying points i.e. if you play 3 rounds and have 38, 32, 34, your aggregate will be 104.

The 19 players will consist of: 4 x A Grade, 4 x B Grade, 4 x C Grade, 4 x Ladies, and the next 3 best players from all entrants.

To be in the running for the 2023 Shootout Honours…and a bucket load of cash, please either email Reece McRae reece@brisbanegolfclub.com.au or pay when you play your first qualifying round. N.B. You must enter prior to your first counting round…no good having 40 pts and then paying, as it won’t count!

But wait, there’s more!!!

This year we have also introduced a Calcutta for the Final which will be held on the Friday evening prior to the Final (December 1st). Every entrant in the NVP Shootout will receive 1 ticket for the Calcutta. Details of this evening will be sent closer to the date, but for now please add that to your diary.

Once the Final has completed and we have a new Thousandaire, there will be a presentation in the Member’s Lounge with NVP Construction (aka Peter Walker) and the Club putting on refreshments and food. So we would encourage those who get knocked out to stick around, but if you wanted to come and watch, heckle, or help, you are more than welcome to do so and enjoy the festivities.

If you have any questions please reach out to myself or Reece.

Regards

Ash Sturmer, Captain
