Green, Tee and Fairway Renovations – Reminder

Members are reminded the course will be closed from 1pm on Sunday, 10 September 2023 and open again on Friday, 15 September 2023.

This course closure will allow David Mason and his team to complete the essential major annual renovations to the greens and tees. It will also allow time to complete a fairway renovation.

The Clubhouse, Course and Practice facilities will all be closed during this period. Please refer to our Course Closed Policy for further information. Members wishing to collect their golf clubs during this time can do so between 7am and 4pm each day.

Please note that in the situation that we lose these days to bad weather then the following days will need to be used.

David Mason will share a video update prior to renovation week but in the meantime has provided the following detail to explain the work which will be undertaken.

The renovations will again aim at reducing the grain on the putting green surfaces, which will require vertical-cutting (light scarifying) and sand topdressing. Unlike 2022, the aggression will be dialled back slightly to a light groom. This will see a quicker turf recovery than the previous medium renovation that was completed last time. A light coring will be completed at the same time for thatch removal, however, this is merely remedial as the thatch accumulation is beyond a single coring event.

Recently the selective treatment of blue couch, carpet grass, paspalum and kikuyu has commenced in an attempt to get back to the pure wintergreen couch that was once the surfaces. The herbicide treatment will kill and suppress the weeds and the raking will assist with thinning the turf canopy, reduce thatch and encourage the wintergreen to grow new healthy leaves and stems. The less aggressive raking as opposed to scarifying will reduce the chance of spreading the off-types throughout the fairways.

The tee complexes will be raked, cored and top dressed. This will reduce thatch and improve the teeing surfaces.

We again thank Members for their patience and understanding during these essential maintenance works. Please direct any questions or comments to myself via 0411 412 666 or geoff@brisbanegolfclub.com.au.
