Storm Update – Friday, 15 December

Unfortunately, the storm on Friday 15 November wreaked havoc at the club.

There are trees down and debris across most of the fairways and the large fig tree near the bridge on the 2nd  has been uprooted.

There are Energex power outages in the Clubhouse. The verandah sails and the umbrellas in the Centenary Gardens are in bad shape. The winds blew much of the fencing around the pro-shop, however the BGC flag flew undamaged throughout the ordeal.

Members on the course at the time described the storm as freightening because of the strength of the wind (169km registered at Archerfield), the tiny but intense hail and the horizontal, torrential rain that reduced visibility to 20 metres. 44mm of rain recorded at Archerfield in 20 minutes. Then there was the lightening and loud cracking thunder.

Joe, Reece, Tyler, Kimberley, Natasha, Rudy, Ben, Riley and Michael and his staff from the kitchen were at the Club at the time, working tirelessly checking on members and keeping all safe.

The driving range, Member’s Lounge, Garden Room, East & West putting greens will be closed until we provide further advice.

Our Course Closed policy provides more detail.  To ensure the safety of members and staff please do not access holes Hole 1 to Hole 21 under any circumstances.

We will also advise if you can be of assistance in the cleanup but please wait until you receive further information before going to the Club.

We will provide a further update as soon as we can once an assessment is made of the cleanup time required.

Thankfully, Members and staff are all okay and we will cleanup the course as we have done before to return it to normal condition.
