Storm Update – Saturday, 16 December

Today, some of us are usually enthusiastically competing for the coveted Hambrose Trophy (the pig in the trophy cabinet) with our strategically selected teammates. As that is not to be, training for next year can commence in earnest.

The clean up after yesterday’s destructive storm is underway thanks to Course Superintendent Dave Mason’s dedicated team working today at short notice.

Access to the second fairway and machinery shed is blocked by fallen large trees. There are also large trees down on the access road to the machinery shed from Fairfield Road as is the tree on the island in the lake on the second. The tree and suggestion box on the island in the pond on the 15th are still intact!

Dave is prioritising clearing the back nine playing surfaces to the tree line so that we can play 9 holes as soon as possible. Bunkers will not be in play for at least a week as much sand has been blown away exposing the matrix underlay in some places. The area around the Clubhouse is already looking better though the broken shade sails and downed umbrellas are reminders of the storm.

Dave and the team have put in a long day today and will recharge tomorrow before the continuing the work next week. The down day will also enable the greens to dry out if no further storms move through the area, despite the weather forecast for today.

We are ready to call up our wonderful volunteers to assist in the clean up. If you are able and available, please register on the timesheets by clicking on the links below. Two-hour sessions 7.00am – 9.00am or 10.00am -12.00pm are planned for Monday and Tuesday. The work will involve piling up debris and / or loading it into course vehicles. Volunteers will need to walk around the course with staff taking the usual precautions of wearing closed shoes, hat, sunblock and bring plenty of water. Also, bring rakes and pitchforks if available, though there will be some at the club.

Monday

Volunteer 7am to 9am followed by morning tea.
Volunteer 10am to 12midday followed by morning tea.

Tuesday

As advised yesterday, the driving range, Member’s Lounge, Garden Room, East & West putting greens are also closed until we provide further advice.

To ensure the safety of members and staff please do not access holes Hole 1 to Hole 21 under any circumstances. Please refer to our Course Closed policy.

I will provide a further update on Monday afternoon.
