Women’s Pennants

Today, Friday 19 April saw the start of the Women’s pennant season, with a beautiful autumn day, with two of the Women’s pennant teams competing in different parts of Brisbane.

Yellow Diamond played at Redcliffe Golf Club against Pacific, having a very successful day, winning 6.5 to 0.5.  The team performance was awesome, with Angelina Drakos leading the way, and winning 7/5, followed by Lynne Conroy, who came out of retirement filling a large hole in our line up – winning 3/2. Perri Ilott, the last of the 3 players playing off the stick, who managed to ignore a minor glitch in the middle of the round, ending with a successful 4/2.  The remaining four matches were all played with full handicap difference.

Angela Fong, giving 4 shots finished 5/4 with Lisa Schoutrop also giving 4 shots, going one better finishing 6/5.  Margot McNee having to give 3 shots, had a tough game, finishing on the 18th with a magnificent 20-foot putt to square her match.  With the final player Ann Fell with no shots, as Ann and her opponent played off on the same handicap, giving it her best to finish 3/1 on the 17th hole.

Sapphire Zone 2, played at Indooroopilly on the Red and Gold nines, against Bulimba. All matches in this division are played with full handicap difference.

Despite the team having to concede a total of 55 shots, they had a very successful win, 6.5 to 0.5.

Lead out by Kerrie O’Callaghan, who squared her match.  Followed by Allison with a 5/3 win, Pat Goh winning 2/1, Catherine Morgan(Captain of the team) winning 6/4, Louise Kelly winning 5/3, followed by Kelly Stoddart, fresh off her B Grade Kerry Cup win a day a go, keeping her form and winning 4/3, with the final player in the team playing, Kelly Hill, a very new player to both match play and pennants winning 7/6.

Congratulations to all players and caddies today, giving Brisbane Teams a very good start to 2024 Pennant season.
